squeaking/scraping noise while accelerating

Thread Necro! Sorry for the thread revival but did swapping the CV axle ever solve anyone’s issues? I’m having the same problems and was beginning to think it was the rear differential but now I can throw this into the ring of potential problems.

My truck has had this noise for the last 40,000 miles. It makes it at 2000, 3000, 4000 RPMs. I changed the timing belt and tensioner last month, so that's not it. I'm guessing it's on the exhaust. Mine is worse when it's cold outside.

Were u able to repair this? I'm having similar symptoms.

I had the exact problem with my 2002 limited, drove me insane! I couldn’t pin down where it was coming from do to the way sound travels throughout the drive line. I’ll give a little back story to what happened. I replaced all the U-joints in the rear drive shaft after one failed in the double cardan joint including the cv ball kit. All was well for a few thousand miles until this noise started happening. Convinced the cv’s were good I was nerve racked thinking rear end/transmission/transfercase..one of the above was destin to spontaneously combust at any moment. Checked everything...all fluids full/clean, rear pinion play in spec, transfer case good...took it to the quick lube to grease driveline again... noise steadily getting worse... In a panic I put her up on jack stands again, crawl under and realize they only grease 2 of the 5 grease fittings on the rear shaft.... (jokes on me for trusting a lube shop to do something I’m more than capable of doing) soooo I grab my grease gun and hit all five. You have to have a flexible hose to get all three in the double cardan joint on the transfer case side of your driveshaft... greased the slip home and finally the rear universal. Noise is gone and I feel like an idiot, a relieved idiot. My suspicion is the noise came from the CV ball that rides between the two joints in the double cardan joint. that being said, I rebuilt the driveshaft and greased it well before reinstalling. Long story short double check that all 5 points are greased and if the noise still continues I would take the drive shaft out and give it a thorough inspection, the cv ball is known to make all kind of noise when it fails, if you haven’t rebuilt the driveshaft yet it’s probably due. Since I’m losing my post virginity with this post I really hope it helps!

Same issue: Squeal/Whine on acceleration

I've got the same issue. (98 Limited, 140k) Noise started yesterday. Presents on putting it in drive or reverse. Gets louder on acceleration. I've inserted a link to a clip of the noise. You'll hear it start and stop. That's when I'm either pressing on the accelerator or lifting my foot off of it.

Thoughts?
