Squeaky Noise from engine

Over the past couple of weeks I have noticed this squeaking noise coming from under the hood. After taking a look it seems to be coming from either the belt or one of the pulleys spinning the belt. By the way I have a 2003 V8 with 82,XXX. Anybody ever had this problem before? Any help would be appreciated.

Oh man, that is exactly the same issue I am having.....and it just started about a week ago as well. I'm not sure what it is either, so anyone with an idea?
 
Must be the cold weather. Does it stop after the engine is warmed up? Best thing to do is spray some WD-40 on the belt in the right spot to make it stop for a good time. Works really good.
 
The cold might be an issue but I've ever noticed it before. And the wd-40 works for a little while but then the noise just starts back up again. So I have no idea.
 
Having the same problem. Obviously a belt/drive related squeak.

Very faint, but audible.

Started with the cooler weather. I'm wondering if it's a tensioner pulley.
 
remove belt, spin each drive pulley by hand to find noisy bearing. replace belt and tensioner with new as a preventative
 
No I have not changed the serpentine belt yet. But it definetly seems like is coming from one of the pulleys. I have a really loud exhaust and I can still hear the squeaking noise as I accelerate.

How easy is this to do I've never changed a belt before. You could just get one from the local autoparts store right? And where is the tensioner?

Putting WD40 on a belt is not only "not advisable," but stupid.

The contact surfaces between the belt and the pulleys rely on friction in order to turn. Reducing friction would cause the belt to slip. Slipping is probably what is causing the squeaking. As the belt gets warm from spinning around, the slipping is reduced, thus the squeaking goes away.

Think of it as how drag racers smoke their tires before the race, to increase heat and thus friction.

I dropped it by a tire place a couple days ago and they checked all the belts and said they were fine. Also, i noticed that by the time the engine warms up it stops making the sound...

I didnt intend on saying to put WD-4ec0 on the belt itself, but the actual pulley. After spraying one by one you can tell which pulley or tensioner is giving you the problem.
 
squeaky serpentine belt

ALOHA and mahalos everyone for all your help. My 2003 V6 Sport Edition with 23K miles started squeaking too this week. Me and my son replaced serpentine belt from NAPA and noise is gone. Problem solved!!!
I also think that the cold winter weather here in Washington has something to do with it. We are getting climatized with this weather. We are originally from Kauai, Hawaii.
