Squealing noise only when cold and on deceleration

I am still convinced that it's my trans... I am telling you, once my trans warms up to 110 or so, the noise vanishes.

I am going to have the dealer flush it next month when I get some time.

An update... The trans flush did not fix the issue.

So I owned a 96 Ford Explorer AWD about 12 yrs ago. When the outside temp dropped below freezing I would get a chirpping/squeaking noise only when decelerating from 25mph down. After a ton of searching it turns out there was a dust seal on the front axles/hub that when it was cold would make noise. It was somewhat common for the trucks to do this. It was irritating but not enough for me to breakdown the hub to fix it. It only happened for the first 15 minutes and then would go away and only when cold.

Just wanted to say I just solved a similar noise on my 97 by tightening the belts for the PS pump and the alternator. I could only hear the noise at idle, not on deceleration, but it sounded very similar.

I'm gonna try tightening my belt Sunday, I'll let you knowing it makes my noise go away

A quick way to check the belts is to spray them with WD40 and see if that quiets it down. If it does, tighten the belts. If not, it's probably something else.

I had the same noise from my 01 Limited when its cold. I thought it was belts, but quickly realized it wasn't. After tracking down the noise with chassis ears, I found the noise was coming from the front right body mount. I shot a bunch of white lithium grease between the mount and the body. I did this last year and the noise is still gone.

1. I have always just used water in an old spray cleanser bottle to do this. Since it wears off in seconds, you can get very precise about where the squeal comes from.

2. At some point, a worn belt will keep squealing no matter how much you tighten it. Sometimes the only fix is a new belt. For me, the PS belt had reached this point at 120k when I changed all my factory belts. Fixed the squeal right away--and I had really tightened up the old one without success. (I was sure I had the right belt, because I had tried it with the other two off, just for fun.)

This happened to my 2000 Limited. From researching all over the internet most people seemed to think you needed to grease the zerks. I pumped some grease in all of them and no noise anymore. Hope this helps

And I finally figured it out (for mine at least). The freaking ac idler pulley..... Took me long enough
