Squealing under hood

Purchased my 99 4R in Sept with 175,100 miles on it and immedialtely had the TB/WP changed by a reputable mechanic. Once the weather turned cold, when I would start it up, I would get a high pitched sqealing sound coming from the front of the motor, similar to a belt squealing. However, once the motor would reach the normal operating temperature, the squeal would disappear. The squealing would rise and fall with the RPMs. Problem continues, has not gotten worse. Now have 179,000 miles on it. Due to the fact that it goes away once the motor warms up, I am thinking it is a bad water pump. I am new too the 4R field and wanted some opinions. I did call my mechanic and asked him if he had any idea what it could be and he said not without hearing it.

Could be one of 3 belts, alternator, water pump, PS pump? its hard to diagnose without being there for sure. Sounds like a bad belt or a loose belt.

If it is a loose/ worn belt, why does it quit once it warms up. Also, anytime it is shut off, then restarted through out the day, no noise. I will check them tomorrow to see if the feel loose or look worn just to be sure. Before I bought it, my mechanic went over it and said all of the belts except the TB looked good.

Yeah just double check the belts no more than 1/2" vertical movement on a fixed line. Its hard like i said to tell what it could be with out being there.

When you had the TB done, the other belts came off and were reinstalled. Even though they were worn in, readjustment of tension may be needed at this point. Also, these belts last forever (I changed my originals at 125K when I did TB, and only one was squealing--it still LOOKED fine), but they start squealing before they LOOK worn out, and no amount of tightening will stop it. Cold belts squeal more than warm belts.

Try taking a spray bottle of water and spray each belt in turn. If the squeal stops briefly, that's your culprit. Obviously, DO NOT get hands near moving belts.

You might leave you T4R overnight at the shop and have them start it first thing in the morning when it's cold.
