curious why. but if you dont want your SR5 ones I might be able to take them off your hands. BW cost a bit, but i want a set of something more than the small chrome ones I have now.

Found some. Not sure i'm sold on the BWs. They don't look any different from the Limited's.

Painted Bushwackers replacing my original SR5 chrome flares. They'll cover up any marks left by the SR5 ones for sure:
I used to have chrome bumpers as well but replaced them with paintable black primered aftermarket ones from Rockauto following a fender bender.
Bushwackers come with front bumper endcaps for both 96-98 and 99-02; however, my 99-02 ones had to be dremmelled pretty good to align nicely or else it would have had an ugly gap. This was the hardest part. Most guys end up just leaving them off I think for this reason. By far, the flares were my favorite upgrades and yes it does just look like a Limited/Sport Edition, but a little narrower. Also, I had to dremmel my step's black endcaps because they are in the way of the Bushwackers. I chose to keep the step because I have a lot of people getting in and out and find it easier to get in with it...
You can get a great deal on Bushwackers from Streetsideauto.com using a coupon code. Mine came out to $337 shipped plus additional paint of course.

When I bought my SR5 Runner new in 1998 I actually hated the black plastic factory flares. Drove it around that way for a year or two but finally I ordered up from Toyota the slim OEM chrome/rubber trim pieces that I far preferred and voilà, my first 'mod'. That was before the common days of Craigslist and buying/selling stuff online and I simply threw all the pieces away - yeah, I know......

I don't know what the hell to do. I have the skinny chrome / black SR5 flares which I don't really like. They don't protect the sides from flinging dirt. I like the look of the Limited flares, minus the door cladding. Those Bushwackers aren't cheap for pieces of plastic. I'm sure it would be cheaper to salvage a set of Limited's from the junkyard. Is it possible to put Limited flares on, without drilling the (square) holes? Is it possible to somehow mod that piece on the rear side door and hack off the cladding piece? I guess anything is possible, but what is easiest? I would probably paint them black.
Aside from OEM and similar flares, are there any people making more aggressive, wider flares for rigs with larger, wider tires and/or running spacers? I was thinking more like what you see on Wranglers with big tires, basically a mud guard that sticks straight out.
Something along these lines.

I suppose, thinking about it, you might be able to use flares/guards designed for a Wrangler, assuming they are close to the right size overall. With some modification of course. Just wondered if any of that type were made for 3rd gen 4Runners.
