The 2004 4.0 v6 actually outperforms the 4.7 v8 in 0-60 times. It doesn't surprise me.
VVT in the 4.0 = a nice steady torque curve. The v8 has more peak grunt, but the curve isn't as smooth. Remember, horsepower is a measure of torque over a range of rpm's.
The addition of VVT to the v8 for 2005 will no doubt change things dramitically.
