So I been looking at getting new tires and rims and checked out some online websites. Crazy thing is, if I just decided to keep the stock rims, a website is saying my car has 16 inch tires. However, my SR5 has stock 17in rims and tires. how can that be? everything I read says the sport has the stock 17in and the SR5 has stock 16in..Help!

Go look.

Somewhere your tire will say something like 265/65 r17. The last number is your rim size.

Oh It is 17" the number is p265 65 r17 110t ...

The concern I have is that I have read the sport comes with 17in not the SR5 and every website I visit, when using the tire spec wizard to see which tires are available on an online retailer (you enter make, year and model) it always comes back saying my truck should be using 16in tires and the p265 65 r17 110t is not for my vehicle.

What year is your 4Runner? The 4th Gens actually have 2 different releases. The first release (03-06 I believe) SR5 wheels were 16" while the Sport Edition & Limiteds came with 17s.
The second release of the 4th Gen (07-09) had 17s on SR5's & Sport Edition while the Limited Editions were bumped up to 18's. To add to the confusion, the 17's that were used on the early Limiteds were the same rims that were put on the later SR5's.

Probably. If it is a Sport Edition with 6-spoke rounded edge rims, then I would say that is a safe bet. The best way to know for sure is to see a picture

Mine is a 2005 SR5 and it came with 17" stock rims. I think it was an upgrade on some that year and I ran into the same thing, all the computers say 16, so just tell them what you really have.

If this tire works, than does that mean I can buy a 17inch 9 width rim and it will fit a tire that is 265/65/17 without a lift kit and have no issues?

Yes my 2006 SR5 came with the optional 17 inch wheels....most tire sites should you standard(16 inch) or the optional wheel(17 inch)

definitely an option. My 04 SR5 has the 16" wheels. I hate them and wish I had the 17"s. I'd go ahead and buy 17" wheels now but my hancook dynapro's have a lot of tread left and I like these tires..

My stock 04' SR5 came with 17's when bought new.

Well it was stock once and had 17's from the factory.

2004 SR5

My '03 SR5 came with the 17" alloy wheels. But, as I understand it, the 'stock' size was 16", and the 17" wheels were a 'port' installed option. According to my dealer, just about all SR5's had the optional 17" wheels installed at the port. In later years, the optional wheels may have been installed at the factory.

seems 16 inch tires for 4runner cost quite a bit less, i am thinking they make/sell more 16" than 17".

This is why when I went for a second set of wheels for a set of winter tires, I got the 16" alloys from an '02. They fit the '03 just fine, and I had a wider, less costly selection of tires to choose from. I had originally gotten a set of '03 factory steel 16" wheels for my winter set, but the steel wheels couldn't handle the Northeast winter roads. Within two seasons, they were badly rusted, so I changed to the set of alloys.
