SSO Slimline vs c4 Low Pro Bumpers

I like the looks of the SSO better and what I am getting installed on Tuesday. Disappointing to hear about the powder coat. Wish I had known before my order. Also wish I had ordered the model with the front access holes for the winch.

Guess hindsight is 20/20.

I absolutely love the look of the C4 and I can’t wait to get one. To me personally the SSO one doesn’t look right to me. But that’s my personal taste. You get whichever one you like better.

If I get a winch ready C4 but not the winch, will I have issues if I have not yet upgraded my front coils? I have a leveling kit on my 2018 TRD Off-road currently. I'm planning on a full upgrade (Icon stage II or OME BP51) however that is still a few months out. Winch would likely be added within a year.

Having a really hard time deciding and finding info on this subject. Here is what I have so far.

C4
Pros:
1. I prefer the recovery shackle locations below the light bar. Out of the way of the light bar and shackles dangle instead of resting against the bumper.
2. Seems to be a much better integration than the SSO, no gaps, contours match, etc.
3. Seems to be a better match for the TRD Pro skid
Cons:
1. Weights more than the SSO at 75 lbs
2. No options to customize other than bull bar. Would like to remove the access holes

SSO
Pros:
1. Lighter weight at 55-60 lbs
2. Stage 2 upgrade. Pretty cool upgrade. Don't know if I would do it but like the option.
3. Less cutouts in front. Given how rare it will be for me to use my winch I don't mind having to lift my hood and just cut an access hole in the dust cover.
4. More options when ordering
Cons:
1. Square bumper into a radius cutout. Does not seem to integrate as well as the C4
2. Seems to hang lower at the bottom than the TRD Pro skid plate, overlapping it

Powder coating is not an issue. Doing that, a chemical etch, bead blast, then a zinc primer locally.

i bought sso for the high clearance wings, but if I had to do it over again, I'd probably go c4.

SSO bumper has a lot of gaps, but on MGM it isn't noticeable unless you are standing close to it. Is it enough to bother some people? Yeah. It isn't enough to bother me though.

the feature sets and build quality on both is good enough that you probably won't notice much difference.

I do have to note though, SSO's powder coat is thin. It is chipping on some parts and I literally installed it yesterday.

C4 powder coat is a lot thicker from what I've seen (from the ladder I purchased from them).

I was set on SSO and then saw this thread and starring looking at c4. Then when I got to this pic I was sold and ended up ordering the C4 last month. Should get it next month.

SSO install question

Has anyone got and installed the SSO bumper themselves on here. I just ordered one and after reading instructions for the install in one the steps ig has you remove airflow ducts on either side of the radiator and it doesn’t seem they get reinstalled. Wonderind if any of you on here with either the C4 or SSO did this and if this is an issue. I’m pretty concerned removing that would affect airflow across the radiator or across other parts. Does anyone know about this I’d greatly appreciate any insight before its too loate to cancel my order. Thanks.

C4 website indicates that the low profile bumper for the 5th gen only comes raw without powder coating. Not sure about the rest of their products.

c4 does offer powder coating on some of their products, just not all of them. Point of the comparison with c4 is that SSO's powder coat is pretty crappy, so you might as well do it locally. However, I see what you are saying, that I can't really compare powder coating of both companies if one doesn't offer powder coating on that specific item. I guess then, I rather deal with c4's raw bumper and get it done locally. I'd still mark SSO's powder coating as a con........lol.

I installed the C4 myself and did not have to mess with any of the air ducts. Cant say for sure regarding the SSO bumper though.

When I installed my SSO slimline bumper I trimmed back the air dams and then reinstalled them. The driver’s side only required minor trimming and the passenger side got hacked up more because I used the vertical support it mounts on to also mount my winch relay box.

I think you’ll find that the most difficult part of the installation is cutting the bumper shroud.

Yeah, I've had my bumper on for several months (sans air ducts), and have noticed the the fender liner is receiving a lot of air flow, pushing it back towards the wheel. I actually popped one of my clips off that holds the liner in place while on a road trip. I think I probably used the wrong screw when reinstalling after putting the bumper on. But I'll be chopping and reinstalling my ducts for sure.

I have 2 sets of SSO Sliders, both with their powdering. The finish is excellent and have had no issues with chipping. One set has been on for over a year and the finish is still perfect. I wouldn't be too concerned.
