stabilizer link?

I have a '95 4runner - when I turn hard left I hear a loud popping noise coming from the front left. A guy at Les Schwab said he thinks the stabilizer links need replacing. Does this sound reasonable? Is it common? How much should I expect to pay for the part?

Anyone get up and under the vehicle to check? Could be a bunch of things (e.g. Loose sway bar, CV boot, a loose inner fender liner) and a visual inspection on a lift wouldn't hurt.

Had a MK3 Supra with that kind of problem. Alignment was off causing serious inner wheel wear (college kid with no idea of tire rotation) with the threads of the tire sapping the inner fender lining. Doubtful that's your problem but take a look.

A bad link usually makes a clunking sound.
A bad CV joint will make a popping sound.

Not sure about the '95, but I recall there being something simular to what you are experiencing. Apparently there is a "hard stop" that will prevent steering from going beyond designed limits. It is simply a metal like bumper that is located near inside/bottom of your rims. I hear that the grease on this will prevent the noise. Give it a generous coat of grease and see it that helps.
I try and avoid maxing out the steering, I hear it is hard on numerous things under there.

Alright thanks guys. I'm having my mechanic take a took at it next week as I'm skeptical about it being the links. I greased up the steering stops but that didn't change anything.
