Stainless steel tire valve covers= bad idea

First I thought it would be a kinda nice, small detail to add ...

I bought some SS tire valve covers for another ride, but now I'm firing the warning shot for everyone else to hear:

they will bond themselves to your valve stems and you will have no other choice but to have the stems removed and replaced

I even had lightly coated the threads with anti seize - made no difference

may not be everyone's cup of tea to start with, but if anyone has ever considered it ... IMO, you should re=consider it ....

The best caps to use are the generic plastic ones that you get for free.

Even the aluminum ones that come from the factory will seize.

I've had the same set of SS stem caps for over 5 years and no issues but I'm also a bit anal and they are usually removed once a month for air pressure checks and I live in dry Colorado might have a bit to do with it but I don't even have any corrosion on the caps but yes,they can be a problem if not removed frequently. These caps are also free from Discount but they do warn you of the issues with them.

I agree with RonMAIDEN. I have had mine on for over 4-years with no issues at all. The trick is NOT to over tighten them otherwise you will have a problem.

I have never had a problem, however my sister had one seize up and needed to have the valve stem pulled.
