Hello all,

as I said in "Welcome" section, I'm from Poland, so T4R 3rd Gen. is quite rare view on our streets. Why I choose her? Mostly, because of this forum :wave: I knew that it will be very hard to get decent 4Runner here, so I have decided to search in US military bases in Germany. And that was a great idea, because I found her:

She is 2001 SR5 Sport with around 148 thousand miles on the clock. Bought in Europe by the first owner (also military) then sold to the second owner and finally when he had to move back to States, bought by me.

Now, I had some second thoughts because in Poland you need to adapt US Specs car to the polish regulations to be able to register the car. But with some help from my friend who is a mechanic I finally managed all the changes and she get polish plates.

So, she is almost pure stock because of this "bumper" but for the moment I will leave it on the car. In the future I'm planning to change front bumper so it will be gone.

Plans, plans... well here is not so easy to get some aftermarket parts for T4R 3rd Gen. So I will have to use some of my US friends in Europe and order wanted parts over the APO. It will be much cheaper and easier for me.

So what I want to change? For sure lift - about 2-2,5 inch, then front bumper, wheels, tires and winch. those are the "big" things.
Smaller thing would be: radio - get rid of stock 2DIN and change it for 1DIN and small shelf under, colour of the internal lights and put some soundproof mats.
I had few cars in my past and almost all of the have been modified, some of them hardly some just a little. But always it gave me a lot of satisfaction and joy. And the best and greatest advantage of T4R is that there is not much electronics and not much parts which can be easily damaged...
That's why I choose her, and the way she looks...:bravo:

Well, there is a lot of things which basically should be changed because PL regulations are not allowing to use vehicle without special approval. For example: you suppose to have letter E with number in the small circle on every part, that means that this part is approved to use in Europe. US spec cars mostly don't have this, that makes big problem for US specs cars users in Poland, because it really depends from the Car Inspection if they will let you drive or not. If the guy will be in good mood... Which is really funny right now, because the government allow to register UK spec cars in Poland, which are more dangerous to use because steering wheel is on the right side... Well, welcome in Poland
Anyway, in my 4Runner I just had to add back fog light and change some bulbs and wiring for cornering lights.

Gentleman's,
yesterday I found a problem on my car, I tried check OBD codes and I couldn't get a connection with ECU. Then I tried "flashes" method and guess what... There is no "Te1" pin inside this small socket. Now, the question. What could happens before and why someone removed possibility OBD control. Does anyone have electrical schemes for this?
OBD cable are fine, software too. Any ideas?

MTL 4runner posted this on a thread over on Yotatech awhile ago when I couldn't get my 96 to talk to the reader...

The OBD-II specification provides for a standarized hardware interface—the female 16-pin (2x8) J1962 connector. There are 5 different protocols which are used on all OBD II equipped vehicles. From those 16 pins there are some common ones between protocols and some are not but this should help.

Now Toyota started using J1850 VPW in 96-97 (due to their ties to GM at that time) and then switched to ISO9141 in 1998 and later vehicles so you'll need to check the correct lines for your vehicle for any power/data signals. On my 96, the OBD protocol is VPW.


SAE J1850 VPW (Variable Pulse Width) Protocol Pins

J1850 VPW uses pins 2, 4, 5, and 16. Most American cars use J1850 VPW (as well as early Toyotas).

Pin #, Description
2 - Data (on my 96 the wire is White, goes to ECU connector)
4 - Chassis Ground (on my 96 the wire is Brown, check to ground)
5 - Data Ground (on my 96 the wire is White/Black, check to ground)
16 - Power (on my 96 the wire is Violet and is fused, 10 Amp)


ISO 9141-2 Protocol Pins

ISO 9141-2 uses pins 4, 5, 7, 15 and 16. This is the most common type for non-US vehicles, especially Japanese models.

Pin #, Description
4 - Chassis Ground
5 - Data Ground
7 - Data
15 - Data (this pin is optional and may not be present)
16 - Power

Note that pins 4 (battery ground), 5 (signal ground) and 16 (battery positive) are present in the same location on all OBD II protocol configurations.

In my case pin 5 wasn't grounded. Grounding it solved my particular problem.

Well, finally I was able to read those codes and delete them. I just had to choose in scanner not Toyota 4Runner but Toyota Land Cruiser. Anyway I had three error codes:
P0440, P0441 and P0446. I deleted them and for now they didn't pop up again. Thanks for any suggestions.
Also I figured out that I can swap rear axle with Land Cruiser 90, which give me rear diff lock and rear brakes upgrade from drums into discs

Those Tundra wheels look right at home on a 4Runner. Looks like a well kept truck. Is a rear fog light mandatory in Poland?

So, inspired by one of 4R from this forum I managed to put Warn x8000i inside stock bumper of my Toyota. It sits very nice, all I need to do now it is some kind of extension for the "clutch" lever. Actually I have wireless remote control for the winch but I'm planning to do the push button inside the car, somewhere close to central diff lock button.

As you can see the licence plate is just temporary installed but it will be above the fairlead.

There were no updates from me for some time but now finally there is something going on.
Well I have changed light bulbs in searching for better night vision and I have installed those:


but I didn't noticed significant upgrade, so I will probably change them for xenon lights.

Next I have received a small package from States with well known:
