Starter Issues

So occasionally the truck doesnt want to start...i turn key and get a single click, do it 2-3 times and it starts and runs just fine. 1st: could it be the starter relay? 2nd: if it is the starter, whats the best method to replace it?

Most common problem are the contacts and plunger are worn/pitted and not making enough contact to engage the starter. You can source a rebuild kit from a dealer, or a starter/alternator rebuilding shop. There are a bunch of how-to's on disassembling and rebuilding the starter on the web. Much cheaper than buying a replacement.

Replace contacts they get very worn down over time and are cheap to replace. Check 4crawlers site he has tons of info on this as well as new contacts you can buy at a great price.

i just got prices on starters...59.00 for a standard, and 149.00 for a high torque...which one do i need?

You probably don't need either. You need to take the advice of the guy who posted above you.
