Ok so i replaced my valve cover gaskets and afterwards i was wiping old oil off from stuff underneath my 4 runner and i wiped off my starter and this little rubber part fell off of the bottom of the starter and i cant for the life of me get the thing to snap back on. Its like a little rubber vent or valve that snapped onto this hole in the bottom of the starter. It doesnt look detrimental to my starter but toyota put it there for a reason. My question is what is this thing and do i really need it? Its a two way valve, air passes through both in and out, only thing i can think of is its a vent for the starter (i dont know why) and this tube helps keep water and road grime out of the starter. Here is a pic of the little rubber vent tube and a pic of the bottom of the starter where the hole is it covered.
