:shrug:This morning when I went to start my truck she just wouldn't turn over. I got the usual ticking sound when I turn the key (just like a dead or dying battery would do). I put a volt meter on the battery and it read 12 volts. Tried jumping it and it still would just make a ticking sound. So I then think it's the starter so I crawl under the truck and wack the starter a few times and tried to start it again. Same ticking sound again. I finally am about to walk away from it and tried it one more time and she finally turned over. Now my question is what the hell is causing this? Could my starter solendoid be going? My alternator reads 14 volts according to my electrical meter when its running. Thanks guys.

Starter contacts. If you repeatedly switch the key from off to start, it will eventually start. The contacts are burned and pitted to the point they barely work. The quick switching bangs the contacts together. This problem will get worse and worse until you replace them.
Only one of the contacts will be bad, the other one will be okay. Do a search, it is an easy DIY. Parts are $15 or less (it has been a few months since I was in the same boat).

Yeah I just called Napa and ordered a reman starter. I figure I'll save time replacing the whole thing instead of just the contacts. I just hope the NAPA starter isn't a piece of junk because from reading some posts they are a pain to replace. Got one from NAPA for 124 minus 50 bones for the core. Not too bad. Has any one had any luck with the NAPA starters? I figure NAPA would be better than the Pep boys brand..
