Alright so first my starter wouldn't start everytime just click and then eventually start, then it started to stick in the open position with engine running so I immediatly turned it off and took it a starter shop, the guy took it in the back and changed the contacts [though im not sure about the plunger] and tested it, it worked fine..

Alright so I take it home bolt it on and click... .

So I click the piss out of it because im pretty pissed off.. I tried turning the engine by the pully and still click click click It had 12.73 volts going to it, so I decide to jump it from another truck for the hell of it..

click click click click click click click click and START.. followed by smoke out the eqaust and high RPMs. I stupidly panic and turn it off.. I figured it had something to do with the 4 bolts I removed from the exaust that I really didn't need to.. I doubt this did anything but I replaced them and!!!

Alright so I put 60$ into it already and it hasn't gotten me anywhere..

Only other thing I can say is that for some reason my [hella aux] lights wouldn't come on.. I know its wired inside to, wherever you wire it to the low beams. But its just strange that they don't work anymore..

I want my truck back.. I was so close to 200,000 miles and then this...

Guys what can this be?!!!

After posting this^ I walk outside and turn the key and it starts up slowly, and there is a bunch of smoke, well it was more like steam in the exaust, eventually that quit, I took it around town remembered how much I loved that truck brough it home turned it off turned it on and..

click click click

I just wish I didn't blow 60$ today and would have just bought a new starter..

He probably didn't replace the plunger, but it worked for him and at this point im not going to spend 25$ to put a new plunger in it myself and hope it works..

Did you check/clean your battery connection?? A bad connection will also make your starter do a single click. A weak battery will be a series of rapid clicks

hey man sorry bout ur troubles. As one of theguys said it could jusst be ur battery or cables. When i picked up my runner, it was sitting for 5.5 years and it had the same battery in it from factory.. It made the same sound when i tried to start it once i had stop to get gas while driving it home. the nezt day i went to advance auto got a new battery and everything started to work, even my power door lock which was opening/closing when ever i tryed to start it... also ur fly wheel could be hanging or maybe some kinna wire. Do/did u ever have a auto starter on it?

You could also have a bad starter relay.

Well my battery is brand new and the the starter is getting 12.7 volts to it.

Again battery is new and it has 12v to the starter. FLY WHEEL hanging? Whell I turned engine over with wrench and break bar pretty easy. Kinna wire? No auto starter.

Checked the starter relay.. Works fine even jumped it, just gave me same old click from starter.. BY the way the click click click click was from me getting pissed off, the thing wasnt doing the multiple clicks by its self like I have heard of before.

I just want to know, if its is indeed clicking, doesn't this mean that everything electrical is fine including ignition switch? I guess I have to replace the starter.

Try running a ground wire from metal on the engine to battery ground.

Let this be a lesson, before you shell out a lot of money. Check the simple stuff. 60$ repair for the old starter and 100$ for a new starter later, AND it was a 2.50 postive battery terminal..

I decided to take it off just to clean it or something and upon removal it broke in half.. Replaced it and it works great..

The old starter I believe DID need to be repaired, which I could have done myself for 25$ but decided to let someone else do it.. However that wasn't the only problem..
