I get that that's just a joke, but ranking "people who play lasertag" over "people who own guns" is just stupid.

This. People don't understand that Facebook is a not a tool for keeping in touch with friends or sharing pics with grandma. Facebook is a tool for making its owners stupidly wealthy by selling data on everything you post, every page you visit, and everything you Like to the highest bidder, who will then become stupidly wealthy using that information to charge the highest price possible for whatever they're selling. The NSA has nothing on Facebook in terms of violating privacy, collecting confidential data, and using it against the interests people it's collecting from.

So true. It will eventually become one of the largest private data mining tools in the world and it's all for sale, well most of it. And it's not even the concrete data you have to worry about, it's the inferences... if your "friend" talks about not paying their credit card or filing bankruptcy, it can be linked to you. If they talk about drugs or some other illegal activity, employers can pay to see that data and potentially deny you employment. They don't even need to see specifics. There are companies that can assign a risk rating (much like a credit score) using certain patterns and key words and the number alone can be purchased and used for blind assessment of your worthiness. Social media is not about the social aspect anymore.

I have family, friends, and colleagues that ask me all the time to join Facebook, or any of the other social media sites.
I just tell them I'm not interested in spending even more time online.
I also don't text with anyone. I simply don't need to be in constant contact with anyone. I have a couple of Nieces that seem incapable of surviving, if they aren't constantly texting someone.
If it's important, you can give me a call. Or I'll call you.

I keep trying to move back to that. It's been harder since relocating because we're so far from people, but I agree. If you need to reach me, call or email.

On the point of Facebook and social media, I need SOMEWAY to view all the boss offroad rigs! But seriously, my view is that if the government or whoever wants to know stuff about me they are probably gonna get it regardless what I do or don't do, unless I go extremely out of my way to keep stuff hidden. I'm not saying everyone should adopt social media stuff, but be realistic. Like the spotted thread on here? Every time someone posts on there they are saying where they and someone else were at a specific point in time, which eventually you can create patterns of movement from that. Everyone has their vehicle posted which is one of the most identifiable aspects of your life, license plates, locations, trails, faces, opinions, etc. Just because you aren't listing your movies and random facts on social media doesn't mean someone can easily (SOMEONE, not even a specific agency or group) create a psychological profile of your life and how you think and even that can just be concluded from how your grammar, spelling, attitude, posting time, frequency, what you "like", patterns in what you quote, etc.
All I'm saying is, every time we do anything it can be cataloged and analyzed to figure out patterns which can create a very specific idea of who you are. Facebook obviously helps that process, but don't think you are escaping because you don't use a phone or social networks. If I was trying to find someone or learn about them, I would do a quick look at Facebook but if they weren't on there a ton of information is just a few clicks away and I'm just a lazy college kid.
Food for thought, every time you say anything anywhere someone is listening. Even if you don't say anything, internet providers, traffic cameras, google maps, credit cards, other people etc. all know where you are. It's just a matter of malicious intent or not and staying under the radar and blending in.

I think there are ways in which I person CAN use Facebook and still maintain some anonymity. But most people don't.
I don't use it, mainly because I don't want to know what someone else did at any given time of the day or night.
I also don't text, tweet, twit, twat, or whatever it is people seem to be preoccupied with doing (and yammering about) these days. Anyone I like or wish to communicate with has my phone number.
Since we've steered this thread from "most likely to survive zombies" to the topic of social media, I'll steer it back a bit: I think anyone who is totally enamored with FB, texting every little thing about their daily life, etc. will be least likely to survive, while everyone who actually spends time outside will be far better off.
