I have been looking for static weight ratings for my 99 SR5 and also for the new golf alltrack which I am thinking about buying next year, and I decided to contact Yakima for their perspective on the matter.
They told me this about third gen 4runners:
"We have tested the 99' 4-Runner and did not think the roof was strong enough for the static weight of 400lbs, *so we would not recommend that vehicle for the tent as it may dent the roof."
Now I know many of you have RTT's on your T4R's so I was wondering if you could chime in on this matter. Have you ever dented your roof? Does it sound weak or feel unsturdy while you are in your RTT? How much do you and your companions weigh (if you don't mind saying)?
