Static while charging phone?

I have the stock radio in my 99 but everytimei plug in my phone to is charger I get immediate static on the radio. Any way to fix this? The charger itself is plugged in 24/7 and doesn't cause issues, it's only when the phone is introduced that it causes issues, regardless of where I plug the charger.

My antenna is also bent and doesn't go up/down on its own but again, works fine as long as I'm not charging

Quickest "fix" to try first would probably to slap a ferrite core onto your charging cable.

The radio whine from a charger plugged into the cigarette lighter socket is actually pretty common. Especially if the charger is of the eBay/Dollar General generic-type variety.

Search for terms like "Engine whine through speakers" on this forum and you'll start to see the pattern.

Performing the "Big 3" upgrade could help also since an underlying factor may very well be the 18 year old ground wiring connections throughout the vehicle.

Aside from that, I dunno. Mine does the same thing if I charge my phone from the cig-lighter socket.

Cig lighter & Radio on same ground?

I've read that the cigarette lighter and radio using the same ground connector can cause this, but haven't changed them to fix it.

I've had the problem in another cars mostly when using an aux cable for music while also charging my phone. In 1 case, I got a ground loop isolator ( http://a.co/98zm16T ) that solved the problem but had the side effect of lowering my volume output. In another, I did the big 3 update (also ended up replacing my alternator) because I was having general electrical flickering, but fixing that also fixed the whine as a nice side effect.

Mostly likely cause is the charger makes noise only when it's charging.

I had this issue on all charger, cables and phones. When I got the new Galaxy s7 Edge I have no more static when charging.

I've had this issue a number of times. Once it was definitely the charger, once it was a certain cable (two different ones both from Amazon Basics), and my Galaxy Tab still does it, but only after it has reached full charge. Go figure...

But those were on playing from devices. On the radio, many issues like this can be resolved by either the antenna ground or the HU ground. Those fails will also involve picking up ignition noise, so that's not my first suspect of you don't have that. I'dl try a different charger and cable first. Some are just noisy. Then try a different phone just to rule it in or out, if no success.

My new Google Pixel made a lot more static noise than my old Note 4, so I bought a shielded cable. That eliminated 80% of the noise.

You mention whine in your post. Mine isn't whine, but actual static like what you get when you go to a non-functioning station or how the older TV's used to have on channels without a signal/station on them. I don't listen to music only talk/news radio and of course because of this I can't hear anything.

Would a Ferrite core clip still fix this issue?
