Static with new Sony single din HU

I'm not a audio guru by any means, so my brother, who loves all things audio and sound systems, installed a signle din.

Removed was the stock 2003 HU, cassette player and all. In went a Sony MEX-XB1000BT. It has great reviews, and enough power for a small sub. However, after installing the HU, I've noticed static with the radio receiver. CD and Auxiluary sound great, but some stations break-up.

Any clues to reasons why? I don't have a whip style antenna, I believe it's the antenna in the rear glass.

Car Toys in Houston wants $65/hour for trouble shooting for static and $95 to sync the steering wheel control with HU (which my brother didn't have time to do). Those prices seem steep.

I just discovered that my '99 Limited has two antennas - one external and one in the rear glass. Works fine but I'm installing a splitter to join the glass one to the external going into a new Kenwood DD head for the best possible reception.

Unless you have a short somewhere I can't see how static would develop. Check the antennae plug and sheathing for damage. Be sure to seat the plug into the head firmly. Not that much to it...
