Statistics- Air Induction Pump Failures

I'm curious how many 4.7 owners have had this issue and what their remedy was, whether replace pump or install bypass module. Also, is it more common on earlier 4.7's (non-VVTI), or just any year in general?

I've only recently learned about this issue, though I previously worked as a tech for Toyota for 5 yrs and never once heard of it. With recently picking up an '06 V8 Sport, I'm obviously concerned that I might face the issue down the line so jus tryna get an idea. Thanks!

I had the P1442 code, the remedy that I used was the AIP bypass from the tundra forum.

I don't think pre 2005 4runners had the secondary air injection system, so they are not affected.

Mine was replaced under warranty at about 15k miles; both the pump and driver were replaced. I purchased the vehicle with 38k miles, and have had no issues. I would perform the bypass if the issue were to come back up.

I've done some research on the kit and it seems pretty straight forward. Is it considered a "permanent" fix, other than replacing the failed oem parts?

I would consider it permanent, as long as its done right, I put mine on about two months ago and never had any issues since.

I have a 2005 and am going through this right now. What a PIA. After 146,000 of trouble free, motoring this happens. No squeaks, rattles, rust etc.... Runs, shifts and rides like the day we took it off the show room floor.

Just like relay system mentioned on Tundra Solutions, Just all the pieces in a kit and comes preassembled. All you have to do is cut 1 wire. 10 min install.

I've had mine in place since Feb 2013....haven't touched it since. (2005)
If you live in a cold environment and park outside it will go away this winter(temp under 41F when you crank in the morning, AIP system does not come on).....but it will be back in the spring.

Sorry for sounding noob, but what exactly does the relay do or "trick" the ECU into thinking? Coming from the dealer end of things I'm geared to think OEM and I'm not too familiar with aftermarket routes (other than suspension).

The mod simply tricks the ECU into thinking the outside air temp is like 18f I think it is. Anything below 41f and AIP system will not get activated on startup.
It is only tricking the ECU while the starter is engaged. This mod is powered by the same source as starter relay.... Once it's off the temp reading to ECU goes back to actual to get proper air fuel mixture for driving.

Others that have bought my mod, done their own, or bought EBAY versions chime in but I've never had an issue w mine nor can I tell it is "working". Your truck will act the same as it always has on startup.

Read up on it on tundra solutions. The AIP system is a Complete waste of money IMO.

Had this issue about 6 weeks ago or so... After going through all the torture and motions with Toyota corp and dealers. I installed SLYFOX75's kit which takes approx 5 minutes to install.. The problem has been solved ever since. No Side affects to speak of.

Thank you guys for the info! I'll cross my fingers that I don't have to deal with this issue but if I ever do I'll definitely be in contact with you for the relay kit. Is it for any/all of those DTC's or jus one of them specifically? Also, do you jus leave the faulty pump in or does it get removed?

The mod won't clear any codes in itself.
The mod will in essence make the AIP system never turn on again.
If it never is asked to come on it will never throw another code.

And yes you leave your equipment in place. That is the major issue with this system, it is extremely hard n time consuming to replace.
