Long story getting this 4Runner.
Basically, I was calling and emailing all last week to find my 2005 4Runner V8 4WD in black. Alot of dealers had the black V8 4WD in tan interior, but I wanted grey interior. Then I found out that most grey interior 4Runners had a 3rd seat. I call and email some more and contacted a dealer by phone. I spoke to a lady with a spanish accent and she ASSURED me that she could get the truck that day (Sat) in the exact options that I wanted. I knew dealers sometimes do this to lure customers in to the lot. She was reluctant to give me a price over the phone, but she did eventually. She quoted me a great price and I repeated more than once " 2005 V8 blah, blah, blah....grey interior, blah.... SHe said yes. She also asked if I came down today and gave me that price that I would buy the 4Runner. I said sure, if you can give me that price.
To make a long story longer, I went and negotiated and we agreed THEN the sh*t started to fly. It was a 2004!! I said WTF!! (in my head). She was teamed up with another dude and said that they can get me the 2005 that day. We agreed on a price, but he mentioned that they get paid low commission, blah blah blah.. I didnt care. He also said that he would do me a favor and "absorb" the destination charge. BS. It is in the invoice price. I got this info from carbuyingtips.com. We finally agreed on the price. He then tell me that he cant get it for me today. It had to be inspected by the dealer before it could be sold. WTF!!
Then I look at the options and I asked the interior color. It was tan. I said no tan. He tried to look for another 2005 black with grey, but he could not "find" it in the Toyota dealer inventory computer. I said later, but he tried convince me to get the tan interior. I told him this is my money I get what I want. He tried to tell me that this SUV with the options I wanted was rare, so I should take the tan. I told him that I would maybe change to a sport. He said that he could help me with that one. I told him that I am never going to buy anything form here. Then I went off about his partner and him screwing up (on purpose) about my 4Runner. He also tried to convince me not to get a black one. I told him he can buy what he wants and I can buy what I want.
It gets better. My wife is in the car and I get to her and she said that some dude hit her parked car. WTF!!!!!!!!!!
It was a sales person. WTF!!!!!!!!!
The pass. side turn signal lens on the mirror is scraped and cracked!!! I was livid at this pt. Most of the sales people said that it must be *****. I guess this is common practice for this dude. Well, some sales people try to rub the scratches off and I yell at them not to touch it. I take pictures and info. The person in charge says to bring it to a dealer some 1.5hrs away from my house to fix it. No way. I will get it fixed at a dealer 5 min from my house and bill your ins co.
I left finally after some 4hrs at hell. F*ckers.
Sun. I called another So Cal dealer in the a.m. and they had the exact SUV that I wanted, but it was on cust hold. I ruled that one out. D'oh!! I tried to locate another one (grey) and the dealer calls me at 4:30 or so and tells me that the deal fell through and I could come take a look at it. I jammed over there with my wife and 2 hours later I drive home in my 2005.
Basically, driving the Runner is more sweet because of the incidents. I left out that 2 other dealers tried to do the phone thing only. Which is fine for them, but not me. I almost went to Lancaster (~2 hrs from my home) to get a grey V8, but the other dealer called me instead. Check out the pics in the Gallery section. She's a beaut!!
