Stealth install possible with non JBL rear and JL 8W3v3-4?

I have a non JBL 4th gen 4runner. I snagged a stock enclosure from a nice t4r.org member.

I want to put a JL 8W3v3-4 in the enclosure; it is the biggest sub that will "fit" in the stock enclosure.

The mounting depth of a JL 8W3v3-4 is 4 9/16".


I am pretty sure the available sub depth is 4" in the stock enclosure.


People have put the JL 8W3v3-4 in the stock enclosure in a JBL equipped 4runner, and it looks like they had room to put the cover back over the sub.

Looking at my sub enclosure behind the panel (I got it trimmed up), it doesn't look like there is any way a sub that sticks out 9/16" would fit under the cover.

I don't want to have to cut a hole in the cover, so would a JBL equipped 4runner cover (the one with the mesh on it) work? I'll cut a hole if I have to, I just really want the sub to be hidden under that panel.

Does anyone have a JL 8W3v3-4 with a clean install? What did you all come up with as a solution to this? Anybody have an extra panel?

how about this, find those slim subs, i think pioneer got a slim one, and build a box and hide it under the seat, i think its like a height of a amp, maybe 2 inches taller. but you can get a jbl equiped panel and replace the original panel you have.

I fit a jl 8w0 with minimal trimming to get into box and problems hitting the removable cover. Matter of fact, if your interior is tan, I would love a new cover in place of nicely drilled grill one. If your tan let me know and I'll show u a pic if interested.

As far as choosing a sub. If it doesn't have to be a JL sub...like [MENTION=5149]riceandpho[/MENTION] said Pioneer makes shallow mount subs. I've been looking around as well and found this one online. 2-5/8" mount depth.

Check that thread out if you haven't already. He made a spacer and it looks like out worked out

How about JL 10TW3-D4? They extremely shallow and impressive output and SQ. Less than 3" mounting depth. You will have to do some modification to enclosure to accommodate for 10". I'm planning to install one with custom made stealth enclosure that will look factory. Check them out they are great subs.
