Steering question

Last week it was colder than normal (mid 20s) and I noticed my steering was quite stiff. I've been putting off doing the belts for 6 months since I got the truck (they're sitting in my garage, but lack of ratchet wrenches make me unmotivated).
I didn't notice the belt squealing at this time though.

Is this a belt fix?
Fluid flush fix?
or is the belt a sympton of worn out steering pump?

If it's not squealing it's probably not a belt unless it's become so loose it's beyond that.

Have you checked to see if it's tight? I think 1/2" of play would be fine.

It could be the wrong fluid. What color is the fluid?

If it's not red then get as much out as you can and put it Dexron III or IV ATF.
Repeat.

You'll need some tools to replace the belts.
