Steering Wheel

Another noob question.
Does the steering wheel lock after the key is removed? Or was that function added later?
It's a 1989 T4R V6

The steering wheel will lock once the key is in the off position.

After 20+ years, mine doesn't anymore either. Stuff wears out.

my '88 4runner steering wheel will still lock when the steering wheel is centered... but, i don't know for how much longer.

Mine will lock if you jimmy the key release button as you turn the key to the off position.
