Stereo install time YO ! (sorry, been watching Breaking Bad)

I'm 2 hours into installing a new HU, Amp and component speakers, front and rear, in my '98 Ltd. :artist:

Done alot of research and I will also at the same time be doing some sound deadening on the doors, and moving the ECT, Rear Window control to the left dash, and Toyota Alarm somewhere out of the way (I'll be installing an idiot diode light also to mimic an alarm system) in preparation for installing a decent cup holder (Thanks Bob_98SR5) :awais:

I've pulled off the doors, seats, some trim panels, and the handbrake trim panel. I only broke 1 connector (door panel ) so I'm pretty happy about that.....

Any advice on how to run new speaker wires through the door sleeves?

How about where to mount the crossovers? I had read about some people having interference problems when mounted in the front kick panels.

How about mounting the rear Xovers in the door?

I'm not sure that my speakers will fit w/o adapters, I have a front adapter from Crutchfield, but the rear doors will be interesting.

Front tweeters look like they will also need some fab'ing.....


Anyway, just thought I would "share" my weekend.......

Update

Update on the install....

"May take considerable time for inexperienced installers....."

Hours of work later and I'm on the road to reassemble, believe it when a source has the above quote..........

I wanted to install my amp under the driver seat (passenger seat has the fan unit), but due to the seat motor, it didn't look like a decent fit so now its going in the cargo area, but not on the seat back, but rather flat, with a mount board. Also going to mount the Sub by it, (I'll be tinting the back in limo tint when it warms up).

Radio went in no problem, , even remembered to install the Ipod cord in the glovebox before putting the radio in
(Crutchfield material was good, but I found better beta on the web)

Got all my RCA cords run, and the speaker wire to locations where the crossovers will go...

Speakers, ah, theres the rub.

Spent Saturday fab'ing mounts for the rear door woofers, (flush mounting the tweeters, ez : ), running to the hardware store, etc.... the wire sleeve running to the rear door is full, I'm thinking about drilling new holes...

Still haven't got the front speaker woofer mount issue resolved (the mounts from Crutchfield are useless, for the Polk MoMo 6.5,) tweeters are being flush mounted above the woofers (the sail location would require many trips to the hardware store (see quote above ) and would be a very tight fit. I have also read that the tweeters should be n close proximity to the woofers, so that made the decision easy. Of course that means that I now have tweeters mounted in both the front and rear doors. Silver lining for the front doors is that there is plenty of room for the speaker wires.

I'll get a photos up eventually, I have to finish up by Thursday so by next weekend I should be chilling to some sweet SQ's...

let the problems fall snow....

Not much progress due to the w-word....

I lucked out and used good quality plywood for the backs, they are nice and painted.

I did spend 2 hours working on building adapters for the front woofers, I went with using hardwood for the fronts, and now I'm feeding the pieces into the fire! (better to have learned that lesson before I installed them and avoided damage to the speakers...) I never said that I was smart :nono:, and I have now gotten a piece of MDF (as recommended) and will be working on the fronts, again.

Too bad I also trimmed my speaker baffles ahead of time, now they may not fit the fronts at all.

Gotta love it!!

Success. mostly.....

Finally finished the stereo install, I did not get the sound deadening,done, or moving the switches around, now that I am an accomplished "disassembler", I think I'll wait until it warms up, and there is more light after work to do those....

Last night I connected everything up, and nothing fried! The speakers and sub even worked. I set the gains today at lunch, it would've helped if the Tutorial on JLaudio.com included the units to read at the speakers as VAC, as opposed to just V , but to be fair the written tutorial did say "connect the AC voltmeter...." Anyway, now I know that the voltage to the speakers is AC.... (learn something new every day)

I also feel like my front speaker adapters will require "modding", the bottom corner of the front door panel sticks out as it is just a tad too high there.....

No leftover pieces, thats what worries me as I usually have screws or connectors left over from ??????


Anyway, it took me about 20-24 hours to do, mostly because I was unfamiliar with alot of the work, and had some "do-overs" LOL!!!!

Anyway, my stereo sounds great, (to me at least), nice and clear, no hums, the Blaupunkt sub provides a nice deep bass feel, nothing to shake the neighbors but still enough to feel, I am not sure if it is set up perfect but I do know how to use the Bass settings LOL!!!

I have the stock stereo and amp, if you want them let me know, otherwise they're getting thrown out (I'm in Denver).

congrats on getting things working!

While your at it, snap some pics of how you ran your power wire past the firewall, how your new speaker wire goes into the door, and how your amp is grounded.

I find those the places where people get either confused or dont know the "best" way to do it. Sounds like you did a good job though.

Also, what kind of equipment did you purchase?
