Stereo upgrade help needed...

Question:

1. Does anyone know if you can hook-up a laptop drive in a usb enclosure and plug it into the usb port of a hu and use it while driving. In other words, will the bouncing during normal street driving shock the hard drive into skipping during music playback?

2. I have a non Ipod Mp3 player(Sandisk Sansa) that I want to use with the hu. I can use it with either the aux input on the hu or the usb port. If I use it through the usb port, will the hu be able to 'control' the mp3 players files like an ipod? Also, will I be able to play flac files through the usb port?

1. I wouldn't use a hard-disk style drive in a car. Just get a big SSD (flash memory), and you won't have to worry about the road surface. Plus, they're faster. Your head unit needs to be able to "understand" the file structure on the drive, though. You'll need a basic tree structure with folders for artists, albums, songs, etc. Otherwise it's just a big list of music you have no good way of going through. Not all head units read USB drives the same way...so do your research.

2. It's totally up to which head unit you buy. Most are configured for iPod/iPhone. Most likely you will have to control the playback using the device itself, not the head unit.
