Sticking Front Brakes

I have a 2000 4Runner SR5 4wd V6 Auto 220,000 miles.

Lately the passenger brakes have been sticking but only when it's cold outside, below 35F degrees.

Usually I have to put it in 4wd and gun it and it will pop loose. Then it might stick again a couple more times right after starting but I won't see the problem again until it sits for awhile.

I replaced the caliper yesterday thinking surely that was the problem, seen it before, but it didn't not solve the problem.

Any ideas? Brake line? ABS brake controller?

I promise you it's caused by leaking rear axle seals.

How did you determine it was the front passenger brakes that was sticking,
did you jack up each wheel to see?

what do you mean sticking?
do you have one locking up when stopping?

if so, I would also say its the rear, and likely the seal...

It almost seems like road spray is getting on something and freezing, bcuz it only happens when it's cold.

I have no idea of you, or your exact situation, but I have had customers come into the shop telling me the exact same thing. and 100% of the time, it has been the rear locking.

but, you didn't explain what is actually happening. is a tire locking up during braking?

The tire locks completely after I press the brake pedal in the first couple times. Especially the first time I depress the brakes, it's pretty hard to get unstuck on slick roads.

Never seen it on a Toyota, but you might consider replacing the flex line to that wheel. The rubber can swell and cause a situation where the fluid won't flow backwards.

Just a shot in the dark but if the caliper you installed is good, that's the most likely cause.

Thanks for the input. That was my next step, I have heard of one of those rubber lines falling inside and creating a little flap inside the line that would only allow fluid to flow one way. It's cheap and easy. I'll update this afterwards.
