sticking in 4wd

as long as I am moving in a strait line its fine as soon as I turn it like I apply the brakes. when backing up I can drag a front wheel any ideas. 99 with 227k auto

That's kinda what 4wd does. If you don't have a center differential disconnect, stop using 4wd on pavement. If you do, unlock it.
