Stiff gas pedal problem? weird noise?

Just bought a 97 4Runner, I just have a few questions regarding some things that bothers me and does not seem normal.

1. My gas pedal is really stiff and has some play in it before it actually moves. Could it be the throttle cable or throttle body? Throttle cable seems fine though.

2. Everytime I start the car, it makes this weird noise. It doesn't sound horrible, kinda sounds like this - errrrrrrg..lol, Does anyone know what that is?

the noise sounds like a dry starter. might have to grease it up.

If the cable is ok, your throttle body might need to be lubed up to. Oil up the pivot points and work the throttle a time or two.

Throttle is normal, I thought mine was stiff too, but you get used to it. I come from driving GM's for years. You can adjust your cables to get rid of the slack, but whatever. I'm pretty sure the other noise you're hearing is the ABS module. Mine makes the same noise on every start up. I think its the proportioning valves cycling.

Yeah I'm going to try and grease up everything, the stiff pedal doesn't bother me much anymore. I was just wondering if it is normal or not? As for the noise, if it's normal, then it does not matter since it does not bother me at all. Just want to make sure that this is not problems that needs to be fixed.
