Stikky's T4R Build

I think that's pretty fair haha. I'm a big fan of that trunk crate as well. Great idea

It really is, I throw my groceries and what not in there after the store.. doesn't roll around.. I keep a flashlight, few tools in there just in case, but i throw the tools into an ammo crate so it's water proof and keep it seperate. yeah i'm an OCD weirdo.

I have two of these ammo crates in there: http://amzn.to/2rKrGfm

Guess I'll add those to the list as well. In my mind that's just a sensible, practical thing to have. Will probably keep an extra one to use as a drybox on my buddy's boat. Or maybe I'm just a bit more OCD than I thought haha

I have the glove box organizer as well, but I cut the lower supports back so I can fit all the manuals in there and it works great. I got the manuals, small emergency survival kit, crank flashlight, pocket warmers, emergency bivouac, a rag and still a bit of room left over. I love those organizers!

I just took two of the dividers out for now, until i'm sure i want to cut them. I most likely will, so three compartments on the bottom, and 1 large and 1 small compartment on top shelf. either way it still works great.

I have the dividers and tray for the center console and bought the tissues for it as well. Haha. That's awesome about the ticket protection, I need to see if I can find a place that does that around here. Great stuff so far I look forward to seeing what else you do!

I Folded on Plasti Dip & Debadged.

So, I did plasti dip & black out my emblems about two weeks ago.. I liked it, but I felt over time the plasti dip may start to chip, and it would possibly look cleaner with less maintenance over time.. so I took as many badges off as I could.

I removed the SR5 logos on the left and rear, and the 4Runner on the rear hatch.

Here is the method I used:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/tE4oeLHHb_U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

While heating the emblems up, be very careful on the back panel, I'm not sure if I heated it too much--Or if the factory just stamps the plastic hard... but on the back rear hatch if left a time outline of the 4Runner Logo (see further into post for photos.

Here is the heat gun I used: http://amzn.to/2rOvu23

Using the fishing line was much easier than I thought, once heated up, they popped right off. The SR5 logos actually just crumpled and fell apart. After the emblems were removed, removing the sticky part was a pain in the ass. I took as much off as I could using my fingers, then I soaked it with label remover. I sprayed wherever there was still glue, let it soak for 5 minutes... after 5 minutes I peeled as much off as I could with my finger... if there was still more, I soaked it more and did it again with my finger.

Here is the Adhesive remover I used: http://amzn.to/2rxx3lg

It didn't hurt the paint.

Here is what it looked like while it was soaking. I taped down the Toyota Emblem, because I'm sure that adhesive remover would make the plasti dip just wipe away.

After removing the badging, I used clay to fill any sort of scratches or imperfections.

Here is my side panel with out the SR5 logo.

REAR HATCH !! IMPORTANT !!

Well, on the rear hatch, i'm not sure if this is because I heated it too much--or if the factory stamped it hard. But after I removed the emblems there is still a minor outline of the 4Runner Logo.. Also there are 4 small indents, not exactly sure what they are for, but they are under those letters. I'll most likely be sending this piece off to a body shop have those indents filled, and the 4runner outline completely smoothed out.

During the process, it did create a few minor scratches, so my buddy which also has a black car suggested I get a wax that is specifically for black paint..

There for, back to amazon I went, and these two black wax kits are on the way.. I went to look for them at local auto part store, but they only had the spray was for $4 more.

Well if that triggered you, this one might get you too.. just added tissue box, that actually fits like it should in it's spot.

Here are the ones I ordered: http://amzn.to/2rKbPgG

Nice build thread...look forward to more. An the tissues fit there because it was designed to fit that size tissue box from the factory. It's nice having tissues readily available when needed.

It may be simple, but it sure is handy when you're driving down the free way and just made a mess with a sneeze--if you know what I mean. lol

Ordered TRD Rims

I was surfing ebay, found a listing for TRD stock rims, and decided to bid.. I didn't really think they would accept it but they did... lol...

Here are the ones I bid on: Matte Black TRD Rims $726

At the time of the bidding the price was set to $826/shipped, and I sort of thought they would be firm on the price... Instead I decided to bid at $726/shipped, and insanely enough they accepted it. In the notes I wrote "A few people from the Toyota 4Runner forum got them for $726, was hoping you would honor that same price"

So I paid $181.50 per rim, shipped.

Thought it was too good to be true, so I called my local dealer to see if they have TRD rims available.. and they did, but their price was around $1000... Then I proceeded to tell the guy I bought my T4R from them, yata yata, and he finally offered employee discount which brought them down to $875 with tax. So I just said thanks, but I found them lower online..

So I should be receiving my rims on or before June 13th, so i'm currently trying to choose the tires I want. Going to keep stock tire size for now, and will most likely be adding 1.25" spacers. to widen the stance a bit. These Ones:

1.25" Spider Traxx Spacers

Any suggestions on tires, would be greatly appreciated. I'm currently interested in the BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A® KO2 LT275/70R17. I've had 3 sets of BFG AT's on my 99' 4runner and got around 60k-80k miles on each set. Hoping this new tread will give same results, with a bit more of an aggressive look.

Got my Matte Black TRD Rims yesterday, got them put on with tires today.

I ended up getting the BFG KO2 275/70/17, and needless to say i'm very happy with the way they look. I get very-very-very minimal rubbing at very strange angles. For example, when i'm fully locked turning right while going up a drive way it rubs just a tiny bit.

I do have the spacers in my runner, but i'm probably going to return them.. Mainly because I do not want to mod plastics or mud flaps.

Next on the list of things to do: Find a leveling kit that isn't going to screw up XREAS. Suggestions?

You don't have XREAS. Only the Limited does.

Well, I believed the sales guy at 4 Wheel Parts, and I just did a few Google searches, and according to the photos.. i do not have XREAS.

So I wonder what he was talking about? He said I was unable to use leveling kits because I have AirRide? According to him, "It would make all the sensors go off on my truck"... My knowledge is truck lifts is limited. Not sure what he is referring to.

I do not have KDSS or XREAS, what could he be referring to?

I believe that guy doesn't know what he is talking about. The SR5 doesn't come with any sort of "special" suspension, just your basic shocks and coil springs setup. You can throw any sort of leveling/lift kit on your rig without issue. The only thing that can go wrong is an incompetent tech breaking one of your ABS sensors while doing the installation. That will for sure light up your dash like a Christmas tree. I'd avoid 4 Wheel Parts for sure.
