The bluetooth reader on Amazon (ranked #1 I think) is $26 and the Torque Light app is free, plus will give you a reason to buy a new phone

I use that and it's great. Much cheaper than a Scangauge and has all the major features. Can't do everything a Scangauge can do though.

I just changed the coolant, I looked inside the radiator and it looked as clean as could be. The outside is clean as well.

I agree with those temps, it shows it's starting at the radiator, temp going in is expected, but the out should be MUCH cooler than that...

I had a radiator that looked clean, but I'm positive it was clogged and the Timing Belt was slipping after 40k miles.

I highly recommend on going to toyota stealership and get a new fan AND fan clutch...

If that doesn't do it, go get another $100 toyo radiator from online. numbers can be found via google. (don't go to auto-zoo, oriely/checkers) and do the 'distilled' water flush ($.85 @ walmart) I did 13 gallons to make sure it was PURE water in the system before adding toyota red coolant (from dealership).

I think these two steps and I THINK your issue WILL go away (if not in the first step).

remote chance: it could be the belt slipping over the water pump pulley, but I think you would hear a noise of tattered belt by now.

Try driving without the thermostat. While it is out, get water to boil and put the thermostat in it. You can see whether it is opening or not.

2000 4runner overheating

I have a 2000 4runner that started to show temperature rising when sitting on idle and sometimes when driving then starts to cool down then back up again. I live in Guam, and currently weather is cool and wet. I changed the thermostat and temp sensor. Worked ok for about 2 weeks then it's back to the old problem.

Air still in the system or fan clutch possibly.
