Still Waiting

I have "ordered" a 2007 4Runner Limited back in February with 3rd row seat option and it still not here. The dealer said maybe in a few weeks but no promises. I'm really getting fed up with the way Toyota does not allow me to order and get me a delivery date. Has anyone else encounted this problem?

Thanks

Yes, Toyota's system for ordering is lacking in communication.

But the question becomes whether or not the dealer really placed a factory order for you, or if he's stringing you along trying to see if he can pull a "stock" unit out of another dealer's allocation coming off the boat.

They should have told you that a factory order easily takes 3-4 months. That's what makes me wonder if he really ordered it from the factory or he's just hoping to find the right one.

ok. here is an update. my order for a 07 Sport with Navigation, side air bags, moonroof, and a couple other bells... is "recycling" according to the dealer. The request has not been rejected but it also has not been accepted yet. 2 weeks so far.....will advise.. for those who are interested...fingers crossed.

Definitely sounds like the dealer didn't order it from the factory. He's hoping the right one will come off the boat and he'll be able to get his hands on it. (The official term is to have it "allocated" to the dealer.)

This process could work, especially if the combination of options you're looking for is a "standard build" for your region of the country. Does your option combination come up as a choice under "Build and Price Your 4Runner" at toyota.com? If it does, good, but if it doesn't, then you could be waiting forever this way. I think SE's with nav are pretty few and far between... that may need to be a factory order.

Interesting. The dealer told me that the SE with nav is NOT a build for any area. I asked that question of members here and did not get a contrary opinion. so the dealer submitted a request to the "factory". whether or not that is accurate is up for dispute I guess. I do remember one member here ordereing it and getting it (can't locate the post). All in all I don't mind either way....and yes, one can add the nav to the SE on toyota.com in my experience. Thanks. will advise.

.......based upon your entry I emailed the dealer and told them that I am not stuck on the white color I ordered. That should, if your post is accurate (in this case) increase my odds....thanks again, appreciate your insight....;):

Any time you special order, the most important thing you have to have is patients. The problem is, some dealers tell you they ordered the vehicle when in fact they are just waiting for a similar vehicle is be shipped to your area. The options you want can only come by way of special order. A true/real special order takes approx 3-4 months and you should get verification within a month.

Thanks Koz..I am hearing the time frame of 2-3 weeks to see if the order is "accepted". I hear the same from the dealer that an SE with nav is a special order....I do not mind waiting. I am an experienced father.....lol

alaskaman,

Which dealer did you go with? My rep says he's tried contacting you.

If it's a true special order and not the dealer in hopes of finding the right option combination that are being allocated to different regions and trying to divert it to yours, you should know within a month to six weeks, depending on when the dealer made changes to the standard build configuration to your specifications.

Yah I exhanged some emails with Cory... he has the best price but does not have the sport with nav that i hope to get. I am going with carsdirect..do not know which dealer they are using or for that matter which state. Thanks.

..........its a little confusing cuz at Toyota.com I can build with nav but NOONE has them.......accept built special by factory...at least no one that I have talked to................

I ordered my 4Runner on Nov. 29, 2006 and I took delivery March 16, 2007. The dealership put in the order with SE distributor in mid December. I got the Request number in January and the VIN number on Feb. 16, 2007. The trip across the ocean alone takes three to four weeks. I can tell you it is well worth the wait.

I called the dealership last week and they said that Toyota has not accepted my order yet. I has been about 4 months now. What should I do? Continue to wait?

Finally found a dealer that will order me a 4Runner, but the kicker is that I have to wait until Aug to order an '08. THey are not taking any orders for the '07. If the original dealer order it when he so called "REQUESTED" i would have it by now. Has anyone else heard the you can't order '08 until Aug?

The '08s will probably start hitting the lots by August. The plants over in Japan are most likely building '08 vehicles now, since it takes 30 days to get them shipped over seas.

I was told by an employee at NUMMI (Toyota plant that builds Tacomas and Corollas) that their car line is about 6 months ahead of schedule for the calendar year. So by summer they've already started manufacturing next year's vehicles.

Yes, when i went to toyota.com my 3rd row option was listed. I think I got my chain yank by the dealer.

Interesting. I was told by the rep that May build from Japan delivers in July and June build delivers in August. (4Runners are built in Japan per his source)...I ordered an 07.....now I am curious....

I checked with the Rep from Cars Direct last week....as the order was accepted by Toyota 4/23 he does not expect to hear anything more until they actually put it on the ship for transit to the Bay Area.

Will advise.....:biggrin2:
