Stock Dunlops AT20

For all of you who've had the stock dunlops at20's this thread is for you. How long did they last you? What tire did you replace it with?

I know a lot of peeps dont care for this tire, but personally I havent had any problems. My 4R is at 28k miles and I believe these are the original tires (bought 4R used with 5k miles on it). The tread is wearing down, but no balding or excessive wear and tear.

I am looking to replace them with Mickey Thompson ATZ radials 265/70/17 which have a mail in rebate this month. These tires rarely have any kind of special where I live, so I am wondering if I should jump on this rebate or just keep wearing my tires down.

Just wondering how much miles, theoretically, I have left.

You can always get the new tires, store them and wait until your AT20's wear out.

I couldn't tell you how long they last, mine were gone by about 1,000 miles

i think i sent pics of the MT atz (E load range) on my 06. i love them. couldnt stand the handling of the dunlops & the wear was bad, at 7000 miles on em, they looked like 30,000. they were hard to get rid of too, nobody wanted them. like i said , i personally like the ride with the mickeys, theyre quietier than the revos on my highlander & to me the ride & handling is perfect with the fulltime 4wd. they are heavier than the dunlops & you can feel it, but to me the T4R is a truck not a car. had to edit my post, where you live the weather is probably nice all the time, here, between rain, snow, whatever else, the dunlops stink. but thats just my 2cents.

I have 25k miles on mine and the wear markers are another 1/16" away. I have no idea how long that will take but the sooner the better.

I really have no complaints but I want a bigger and more aggressive tire.

On my mom's LC, it comes with the AT23 - IDK if theres much difference but she got over 50k on the originals (all highway and easy right foot) She replaced them with the same ones. They squealed on turns when they were almost worn - hopefully this is noticeable on the AT20s.

I really haven't had any problems until lately, the outside treads are bald - probably because I corner hard. I'm around 49,900 right now and the tires seem okay even with all the rain (no noticeable hydroplaning) we've been having down here lately.

damn that is a big range 2000-50000 miles. Ive been meaning to snap a few pix of my tires...maybe one with a penny measuring the thread....hopefully that helps the question.....not enough time in the day.

well, theres alot of things that people have to factor in when buying tires, -what part of the country they live in, ( upstate new york, socal, midwest, etc.)weather there -( mostly sunny,rainy,snowy, etc)., what they will use them for-( towing , high milage daily driving, etc.), how they drive- (lead foot, fast cornering & braking,etc.,), where they drive mostly- (highway, city, etc)., do they ever go offroad, & so on. thats just some reasons one tire may be good for some guy but not for another. im not trying to bash dunlops, but the first time i drove them in snow, i knew they just werent meant for me.

I got 48k miles out of my AT20s before I got my Revos. Honestly, I had no issues with the AT20s and they wore perfectly even despite my aggressive driving style. There was enough tread for at least another 10k-15k at the time I dumped them.

Obviously they didnt fall apart after 2k, he just got new tires.

Expect them to last at least 30k.

yea, 30k is about what ive heard, even from guys that work at toyota. to tell the truth , even if the brand states 50-60 k ,ive never kept a tire longer than 35-40, no matter what brand, & theres been a few, i prefer to always have more than enough tread.

Mine came stock with the rig and lasted through the loan - got a solid 52K out of them and could have used 2 of the 4 for another couple thousand; but it was time to upgrade!

My Dunlops have around 42,500 miles on them with the majority of those miles being highway miles.
I'd like to replace them with Michelin LTX M/S eventually...

My AT 20's had about 44k on them when I replaced them with Firestone Destination AT's. The AT 20's were o.k. until about 40,000. Their grip on wet roads dropped significantly after that and I did not have much confidence in them. I've had the Firestone's for about 3 months now and really like them. I don't think the traction control has kicked in since I got them.

Had 60k on mine when I got rid of them. Mostly highway and could have gotten another 5k out of them. They were smooth and quiet on the road but sucked when traction was needed, especially in snow. Replaced them with Michelin Cross Terrains which are way better tires. Should have switched sooner.

so i ended up buying 265/70/17 Mickey Thompson MTZ's with a 2.5" leveling kit up front. Cant install until next friday so I am working on my patience. Will post pix once everything is on. thanks for all the info.

i got 41,000 on mine. they had some tread left but i was greatly disappointed with the dunlops.

I know right....Ive been toiling over this predicament forever =)
I went to 4wheel parts just to buy the tires. Ive asked around forever to see who would lift my XREAS and forever they all said NO. Well this time I asked the guy and he said "yeah we can do it"....I was like....WTF....how come only now??? He said, the manager said its ok now.....super weird how that worked out.

Anyways it was a critical moment.....I had to decide if I wanted just a leveling kit ($$), or shall I get a lift + 285's ($$$$$). I went subtle. I cant see taking out my XREAS when it is perfectly fine. Hopefully by the time these tires wear out...then my XREAS will need to be replaced (probably wishful thinking).

By that time, I will see how others have lifted their 4R and decide the best path to take.

Question: what is the purpose of spidertraxx? Any advantages/disadvantages? Could I use them with this setup?

Thanks bro, just wait though soon I will have a new and way way improved setup :bigok:

As for spidertrax, I highly recommend them. They increase your track and I think they helped my stability some, but that just might be my mind playing tricks on me. Mainly, they make the truck look WAY more aggressive. I took mine off the other day and hated how it looked without them, i mean HATED it, everytime I looked at my truck it was all I thought about. The disadvantages are you might have to adjust your inner fender some and it might kick a little more junk on the side of your car than you would experience otherwise.
