Stock Fan cfm

does anyone know what cfm's the stock fan is pulling?

i'm debating installing an aftermarket electric one and

i want to see if it's worth it

Efans are soo much better and free up horsepower. But, I would at least go two big efans. Good luck on finding out how much the stock clutch fan moves. I know it's a ton! And with an electric fan you can turn it off for water crossings ;)
 
I have done extensive testing with electric fans on the V8 motor. The factory 15" fan pulls a maximum of 10,000CFM.

No electric fan of any type is capable of cooling of the 2UZ when towing or hard on the throttle. I have tried every fan combination of every type from every manufacturer in every configuration and there simply aren't any electric fans that can cool off the 2uz at high loads. Here is what I have tried:

dual 12" 4500 cfm
QUAD ducted 12" 7500 cfm
single 18" mbz 400 watt fan
single 18" mbz 600 watt fan

All of them would be working hard and unable to cool off the engine when travelling up a hill on the freeway or towing, they are simply not strong enough. I even programmed a 3 step PID controller to detect rises in coolant temp and activate the fans in steps - first step was the front 12" pusher fans, then the rear puller fans, then both fan systems. Later I tried both a PID controller and a static coolant temp/relay controller to work together to cool off the motor. Since I had the PID controller in my dash I could see the temps rising and the effect my electric fan system did not have on the engine.

I recommend that nobody try to use electric fans on trucks in general. There simply aren't any options that work and if they do work, they will actually lower your horsepower.

Electric fans only work for cars.
 
Electric Fan Testing

You had some good info in your post, but I'm curious as to why you run Electric fans on your 4runner. Looking at your runner's setup it appears you're probably working it pretty hard with the larger tires winches etc. Does the loss of cooling by switching to the electric Fans offset the convenience of being able to control them during water crossings?
 
Not a good idea from an engineering standpoint. Imagine driving it in a deep water or water crossing, the electric fan is not designed for that.

The rear puller fans have been removed and replaced with a factory 15" fan. The front pusher fans were just left on the truck for rock crawling purposes. I wanted to know if they would ever turn on when crawling because of low rpms from the main fan. They never did, the standalone temp monitor/fan control has never been high enough to turn on the pusher fans since I installed the mechanical fan. I guess I have my answer.
 
I did some messing around with fans on my Subaru and would be interested but I doubt your gonna find one that will pull more than what the mechanical one is already doing.
