I've read in many places that the stock front coils are left/right specific. Different part numbers. Different dabs of paint. My runner is 02 Sport Edition; 86k miles. All stock.
Pulled the front shocks and coils today to put on Bilstein 4600 (I don't want a lift, so the 5100 would be pointless).
As expected, the stock shocks are identical. Same part number and everything measures the same.
The coils have different dabs of paint, as expected.
But...the coils are identical. Same gauge wire. Same number of coils, wrapped exactly the same (slightly progressive). Same length. In every measurable respect...identical.
With stock shocks, my driver side was 1/4" lower than passenger side.
With the Bilsteins, same. But both sides 3/4" higher. The spring perches on the Bilsteins are 3/8" higher. Account for sagging bushings on the stock shocks and the hats probably not settled yet...and that's about right.
The ride...similar to stock. Wasn't expecting much different. The rough road I used as my test seemed a little smoother with less front end chattering.
