Stock tire replacement suggestions.....trading in soon (maybe) as well....

My 4R came with the OEM Duelers, which I was not impressed with. Swapped them out at 18k for the Firestone Destination AT's - currently at 75k - need to be replace before winter rolls around. I have been very happy with these tires!

However, I am on the fence on getting a new 4R, if not before this winter it will happy before next.

I only put on about 8k - 10k miles a year. The Destinations price has gone way up since I bought mine as well. I do not want to dump a ton into tires and waste it trading the vehicle in.

I am looking for alternatives that are cheaper, but also still a good tire. I live in New England so we occasionally get snow and will take a few trips skiing, so they need to do well in all conditions.

The Destinations are $170 on Tire Rack (just using them to get an idea of price differences at the moment)

I was thinking the Geolandar A/T G015 - $144 - any thoughts on these?

Any other thoughts? I still want a decent tire as saying a few dollars is not worth an accident!

Don't think I'd ditch tires I'm "very happy with" over $25 a tire.

So whatever you buy, put them on now, and swap them to the 2018. Make it part of the negotiation. The dealer should be happy to do this to get the new tires on the trade in.

Falken wildpeak. Might be cheaper or around the same price as those you listed.

Discount Tire has the BFGoodrich Long Trail T/A for $143/tire. They seem to be better than the yokohama but I haven't used either myself.

A $100 is still $100, especially if the tire is just as good...or better.

I had a set of the Long Trail T/A's on a prior vehicle, there were not bad, but not good either IMO.

I got off the phone with a local dealer for the Geo's and was shocked - quoted me $960 for 4 OTD!

TireRack is $611 delivered to my door - It does not cost $349 to mount/balance 4 tires! I understand (and am willing to pay) local brick & mortar mark up, but that is crazy.

Both of those include the $60 rebate.

One of the best (non winter) tires for winter conditions.

We had those on my wife's Jeep during the last winter and the snow performance was exceptional. They handled well in foot deep snow during blizzards and on sleet/slushy roads the rest of the New England winter.

They also were great in heavy rain and showed a very high threshold for hydroplaning.

Seems like this is done frequently with the suggestions on here, however I would be getting a Limited, so they would not fit. I would not be interested in bring my 'old' wheels over either due to their age. I don't want the 20's either though. So....the dilemma continues.

From what I can find the Geolandar A/T's seem to be on par with the Destination A/T's, actually a bit better is snow which is a plus.

I know the Dest. are quiet on the road, but I can not find much on the noise of the Geo's....anyone have experience with them on road?

The Geo's were released in '16 so not a lot has been reviewed on them it seems.

My Toyota dealer just quoted me $682 OTD for a set of 4 of the Geo's! That is very tempting (they are running a tire sale currently).

I plan to make a few calls on the Dest. but if they can't come close it will be the Geo's I think.

So my 2cw, I just went through this. I opted for the Falken AT3W based on several glowing reviews. Knowing these would be heavier than stock duelers, I went for it. After 3 balancing attempts in a week and replacing two of the four new tires to see if proper balancing could be achieved, still no luck. Shakes over 60mph even after balancing with the Haweka-like discount tire adapter. Here are some of my thoughts after a week of driving;

MPG: down by 1.5 mpg - impact seems to be greater in city vs highway
Noise: up by approximately 20% from stock duelers
Steering feel: heavier (when it is not shaking)
Looks: great!
Price: great!
Dry/wet performance: great w/no squeal at all!

DT recommended that I should go with Yokohama Geo Lander G015. I am going to give it one more shot at a different tire place to see if they can get rid of the shake but if that does not work, going to try the G015.

Get what you want. I guarantee you that you will find wheels and tires on Craigslist for cheap when the time comes for a trade. I'm willing to bet you can buy a set, sell your wheels and tires on Craigslist, and come out ahead. I've done this repeatedly.

Don't compromise on a tire you're going to hate or that isn't going to perform. My wife ran the Destination AT. Awesome tire. Not as good in the snow as my Wildpeak AT3Ws but I still would have bought them if they were more aggressive looking.

Just don't settle on a subpar tire unless you are 100% dead set on the trade and it's happening sooner than later.

I have run Duratracs, Grapplers, KOs and now Cooper AT3s on my 2007 and will only run AT3s going forward. Great all around tire.

I would get what you want and if you trade it in have them swap or just get more on your trade in for new tires.

The 3 things you should never skimp on are Tires, Wive's/GFs, and Ammo! :bounce:

I was quoted $1,100.22 for the Destination A/T's today, wow! That is crazy given what I paid for 5 of them a few years ago.

I see a lot of you are running the AT3's - which seem like a decent tire, but given they are basically the same as the Geo's (and my dealership is having a great sale on them) it looks like the Geo's are the only way to go.!

Just so you know, if you have a Discount Tire in your area, they will match that Tirerack price. I did this with my BFG KO2's

I do not have one within 100 miles. However, TireRack will ship to a store a few miles from me and they are an 'authorized installer' for them, so that is an option as well.
