Stock V8 exhaust on V6?

I currently own an 06 V6 with a Gibson stainless exhaust, and an 06 V8 with a mint stock exhaust. I’d like to swap the Gibson over to the V8, and the stock exhaust onto the V6.

Anyone ever make that swap? Looking at some aftermarket pipes, it looks like the V8 pipe will need to be extended a couple inches in front of the muffler, but should otherwise be compatible.

It should work.

Magnaflow's cat-back kit is the same for the V6 or V8. They just include 2 sections of pipe to place in front of the muffler.

The hanger placement is also slightly different as well, so something you should plan for too.

i would take it to a muffler shop and have them do the extension.

when i bought my borla cat back duals, the guy at the muffler shop had to extend the inlet pipe about 2 to 4 inches, the borla was from a v8, i have a v6.

now for you to put the v6 exhaust on the v8, you might need to cut the inlet pipe, not sure if gibson have install instructions, you need to find out. magnaflow cat back came with both pipes, one is longer and one is shorter. i forgot which one is used on which.

I have some light fab ability, so cutting and welding a section into the Stock V8 pipe shouldn't be an issue.

The Gibson actually shipped with both the V6 and V8 inlet pipes. I kept the V8 pipe as spare scrap steel when I installed this on my V6, so I should be able to bolt everything up.

For anyone that finds this thread later, the stock 06 V8 exhaust fits, more or less.

I had to extend the pipe before the first hanger about 4”, and also use that pipe to drop the exhaust 2”. The centerline of the y-pipe outlet is 2” higher on the V8 than the V6, but other than that, everything fits perfect.
