Stoptech Big Brake Kit from 3rd gen to 5th gen question

I have a set a BBK stop tech setup on my 3rd gen but I was wondering if I would be able to move them over to a 5th gen. I was thinking the only difference I’d need is the bracket but I didn’t know if the braking system is much different on the 5th gen to accept a different caliper altogether?

I know I have a unique setup but just in case anyone else was trying to go from 3rd gen to 5th gen should know that SOS performance sells the brackets needed to fit stoptech kits to 5th gens. I found this out after contacting them and they said they could get my ST40 kit to fit my 4th/5th gen but I ultimately upgraded the calipers to ST60s and reused my rotors from the 3rd gen kit. The SS lines from the 3rd gen hook up to the 4th and 5th gen setups so those can be carried over for the front setup if needed. Just FYI.

Front BBK Install

I found their site through tacoworld forums but they make kits specifically for the GX460 and 5th gen. Both those that are as big as mine and those that fit the stock 17s. I know Rotora also makes front and rear BBKs. SOS has a kit that fits the rears but I think the fronts are plenty in my case. Both bling and functional.

What exactly is the point of this? Just because? Or do you have that much added weight? Not that I'm saying being able to brake better is a bad thing, but curious if there's THAT much more of an advantage over others ones on the market.

Well it might not be a huge issue with the 5th gen market but the 4th gens have the frozen caliper issue. Most of the time people retrofit factory 5th gen brakes but even then the reman parts end up freezing up over time. I just went with the Stoptech kit so I wouldn't have to spend time swapping calipers every 18 months. Keep in mind that I already had the BBK from my 3rd gen so I only had to buy the brackets and calipers so the cost would have been similar if I had sourced new 5th gen calipers and rotors when I was servicing my brakes.

My other big thing is that it does add some braking performance over the stock setup. With the thousands spent on suspension, armor, and other accessories, braking is a pretty important aspect so I thought it was worth while to make sure I had a good setup. I loved the ST40 kit on my 3rd gen and when I was moving onto the 4th/5th gen market, I wanted to be sure I could use it. Not everyone's cup of tea but I wanted to just share my experience in case anyone else decided to go this route, they wouldn't have to spend as much time as I did researching.

Stoptech BBK from Tacomaworld

There's plenty of testimony here on what these guys think of the BBK setup on their rigs too. And for the record, I do plan on adding weight to the vehicle down the road, I just needed to service the brakes so I went ahead and just went all in.
