Ok I'm curious if any of y'all have a way to store a rifle in your 4runner but still have easy access.....I've seen things for over head storage or behind the seats but I'm curious if anyone has something that works well or at least personal experience....as of now I have it in the back and it simply takes to long to get it out when it's needed....we have a terrible problem with coyotes on our farm and I sometimes see some crossing our drive way when I'm going or coming home from work and would like to be able to dispatch some of them

What size rifle? There's a nice cubby space created behind the back seat when the folding shelf is up. Flop the driver's side back seat forward and you should be able to pull it straight out without having to open the tailgate.
Of course, if the rifle is really long, has a large box magazine or a tall scope, it may not fit. I haven't really tried sticking much in that spot since I settled on a subwoofer box that won't permit me to raise the rear shelf.

If its an AR style rifle or a short 16" barrel it might fit in an 81mm Mortar case. A member found them to be great storage solutions for ou vehicle.

I am not sure if 4Runner will give you an ability to store the rifle with easy and I am assuming quick access… option behind the back seat is easy, but I do not think it is quick…
Just FYI and IMHO: when I am hunting with a chance to see a wild pig (or any other animal I can legally shoot from the vehicle) I always have S&W .357 (4 inch barrel) in my reach, it is normally under my seat.
For those situations, I think that type of revolver is much better option to have vs. rifle; mine is open sight, but you can install scope on it of course;
With .357 round and scope 80-100 yards shot is very doable and as deadly as any mid-power (or less) .30 calibers (.270, .243, 30-30, 6 mm, 7.62x39) and will definitely out perform .223 round of AR;

I keep mine in my front passenger seat with me when I am looking for yotes, but I have a lwrc with a 14.7 barrel with a flash comped pinned and welded plus a 6.6 inch suppressor. Plus I keep my stock collapsed most of the time. Chop that barrel to 18 or 16 inches and get a youth stock of you really want to get it short. Since its a gun you don't mind trashing it's an option. What caliber is your rifle anyways?
30-06 I picked up from a buddy really cheap.....I have many other guns but this rifle is gonna basically be treated like an old pump duck gun....I'm gonna look into maybe a scabbard like my friend uses when he hunts off his horse, maybe somehow attach it to the seat somehow, who knows still gathering information and ideas.....coyotes around here are pretty shy during the day so I need to be able to move quickly

OP, one way to make your aught-six a bit easier to handle inside the 4Runner would be to chop the barrel down a bit to 18". An 18" barrel would lose some velocity and the possibly accuracy, but since its just coyotes and not a camp perry match velocity lost would be insignificant. An 18 barrel would make it a lot easier to fit into a scabbard as well if you plan on going that route. If the barrel idea doesn't suite you, look into getting a youth stock to cut down on the length as well. When I go hunting/shooting out of my truck, I have the stock collapsed a bit just to make it easier to handle inside the vehicle. I'm only suggesting these option because it's what I'd do if I had a beater gun lying around.

I want to say I've seen options where you mount the gun to the seat back vertically, but ^^^ is a horizontal option.
Personally, I would do the roof mount. It's up, out of the way, not visible and it doesn't do any permeant damage to your truck. My only gripe is you can't lock it with easy access to unlock.
