Strange but funny things that happen in my 4runner

soooo.... It may just be me, but does anyone else get huge static shocks whenever they park their runner, turn it off, open the door, get out, and when you touch the metal on the door to close it, it shocks you?

Also, does anyone else find that they start up their runner, start driving and realize that it is in 4wd because when you parked it and turned it off your knuckle hit the 4wd switch so it is somewhere between 2wd and 4hi? Maybe i just have big hands...:hello:

I don't have either of those problems. Leather seats and AWD.

Lol...were spoiled because I don't have that problem either but I use to get some rather severe shocks from my Corolla, sometimes they could be pretty wicked.

What tires do you have? Some rubber compounds ground static charge better than others.

My fiance's 2000 Altima is like that. I need to put shocks on that thing too.

I get static shocked almost every time I get out of my 4Runner. I've gotten into the habit of using my elbow to close the door (less nerves in there). It's because of the crappy manmade materials they made the seat out of.

One of the reason's I'm looking at getting some clazzio seat covers one of these days.

My drivers side seat just started making a squeak on the right side bolster though. Somewhere up in there the padding is rubbing on the spring frame. I've put my hand up there and I can feel it… Think I read somewhere about putting a small piece of felt between the pad and the frame.

Oh, and I have full time 4WD. No accidental 4WD issues.

Hate the shock though.

to avoid shocks, don't put your hand on the metal parts to close the door, put your hand on the glass window to close the door shut. Works every time for me.

Dont know abt the shocks but i can say i LOVE my clazzio's!!

Back in the day you could touch the key to door, shocking the key not you. But nowadays most keys have plastic ends on them. you can still do it but it takes a bit more thought. Just don't scratch the paint!

No one else hits their pinky knuckle on the 4wd switch when they turn off their ignition, switching it into 4hi? hmmmm, maybe im just a ra**** (and ya i spelled it like that as in "well maybe we should tell that to Rainman cause he practically bankrupted a casino and he was a ra****")

Yes, it seems worse with cloth seats. Although when I do get shocked from my leather seats, it hurts way more! I usually touch the plastic trim first to discharge. Now imagine if we had chrome door handles- OUCH

i always hit it in 4wd or half way in 4wd i do dislike the position of that

i have had the shock issues in other cars, fixed the problem by a better engine to chassie ground.

Today held my hand to the metal on the door jamb while sliding out (it's the sliding across the seat that generates the static for me) and I felt the electricity build and it still arc'd out from the edge of my finger to the jamb. It was almost worse.

You could try rubbing your seats with fabric softner sheets, or try some antistatic spray...they make spray specifically for autos. I've used some when I had my Jeep (and cloth seats), but you have to reapply it about every month.

Or you could try those static strips...for example,

Antistatic strap for cars - STOP static shocks! Stop Static Electricity in your vehicle!
