Strange electrical motor noise coming from dash

It looks like you don't have a limited so you wouldn't have a motor used to adjust your airflow.

My guess is that sounds like the CD loader on the radio. Sounds like it trying to eject a CD. I would start there.

Take out the radio and unhook it completely. Start the truck like you were and if the sound is gone you need a new radio.

If you still hear the noise, you will have a major access point into the middle of your dash open so the noise should be louder and easier to locate.

It got to the point this week where it now was coming from dash 24/7 as soon as car was turned on, or even on accessories. Wife was mad cause I havent sold yet. So I opened it up pull it out and isolated it to the head unit ( good news) I started unplugging each wire one by one, and noise stopped when power was cut off to the unit itself. Duh. But more good news. Unplugged everything but the power took look at unit and low and behold this stupid little fan hidden on the side was the culprit. stop fan=stop noise :rockon:

Since I dont play CD's and there are no moving parts in the head unit without a cd playing, I cut the red wire going to fan and plugged it with electrical tape, and then shoved into path of fan so that evil demon will never move ever again. My gut had told me originally it was some sort of cooling fan for the head unit but no one seemed to have any experiences with that. Hopefully this will help others in future. And best news is now I can keep my 4runner and wife has agreed instead for me to get new tires and lift this week! Good day. Thanks for help and suggestions from everyone.
