Strange new rattling over bumps

Well, for several days following my outstanding FJ Summit#6 experience I have noticed some very distinct rattling noises from beneath my faithful steed.

After finally separating my lazy derrière from the sofa, covering up in my "Buzz-Off" clothing, and coating my exposed areas with a solid layer of DEET (we are experiencing a level of epidemic proportions of West Nile Virus here), I began to investigate.

I went to my trusted tool box (not even close to Antman quality) and fetched my rubber mallet. I "gently" began whacking on some areas, bumper, sliders etc, each time replicating the sounds I hear while under way. After lowering my slight frame (NOT) down under the vehicle, I continued my whacking. All of a sudden from the corner of my eye, I spotted some movement. Looking in the direction of the movement seen with keen peripheral vision, I gave it one more whack! Much to my chagrin I recognized the beautiful color or Colorado granite in one of the vent slots of my skids! Pleased with the simplicity of this "Repair", I retreated to my back yard lair for a celebratory adult beverage.

NOTE: Check for rocks in your skids!

Speaking of skids/sliders and Colorado dirt:

So I scraped the powder coating off... anyone have any suggestions on the best way to cover up the bare metal again? I was thinking about Rhino Lining the bottom of the square tubes. Suggestions?

I know they say not too or that it won't work but I rattle can the bottom of my powder coated skids all of the time. Years from now when its all beat to hell I may have them recoated but for now its more than fine. But of course the fix is not visible unless you are under the truck.

Nah, you'll just scrape it off again.

Back in the day fixing trucks we used Rust-o-leum black for the bumpers. The paint-on version is rubbery, and also takes sand for traction easily. The spray gets harder when it dries, but still does not chip easily. Even today, I put that s*** on everything that gets hit with rocks and loses paint because of it.

Nah, you'll just scrape it off again.

Somehow "gently" and "whacking" just don't seem to go together. :shrug: Good idea on enjoying your beverage in the yard ya wouldn't wanna slime up the couch with deet
