strange sound under steering wheel box

new 2012 4x4 4 runner ltd, strange mechanical sound comming from around/ just below steering wheel box. the sound only happens after starting the truck and after engaging gear into drive and driving forward ,after a few seconds the sound happens and it sounds like a mechanical latching sound. it is not very loud,(so turn off the radio and close widows) it is very short in duration (1/4 second) and only happens when you turn the truck on and drive away in forward drive, has not happened in reverse. is this normal? and is this part of the steering wheel locking security feature? please help.

Read the manual? It's normal and happens at 12-15 mph...

Yes, totally normal. Part of the system check.

It's because of EBC (electronically controlled brakes). There's a stroke simulator in the brake actuator and it is simply put pressure for a split second to the pedal and gettin to the right position after the car has been off

thank- you all for replying, makes sense about the brakes resetting at start up, however, still cannot find that info in manual? anybody know the page number in the 2012 manual referring to this sound? thank -you
