Strange throttle response

I was driving home this afternoon and I put the 4RTE on ECO display. Against a stiff breeze, my TE would just not respond to the gas pedal. The ECO guage was into the last blinking section as I pressed the pedal down considerably more, but there was just absolutely no acceleration. I could hear something which sounded like the engine whirring up and down in resonance, but the rpm stayed at 1500. I turned down another road which was sideways to the breeze and the truck behaved the same.

I don't know if Toyota has a break in mode in their ECU programming, but when driving my previously new FJ and now the 4R, the motor and transmission feel really laggy. This 4R seems worse than the FJ however. The FJ got better of course so I'm expecting the 4R to as well.

ps. Toyota needs to fix the radio. If you listen to aux/usb, the next time you start the truck it defaults to aux/bt. Mine is always switching to aux/bt, but I'm not sure if that's related to it's pairing with my cell phone

i hear ya. there are a coupple more threads about the tranny lag. i just got off the phone with the dealer i bought mine from and they are going to get it in tomorrow and get a guy from toyota corp to come and check it out. this dealer seems pretty motivated to check it out and get to the bottom of it.

Keep in mind though, my FJ was laggy too, but it got better as the truck broke in. Even having said that, there were many, many times that the FJ would not downshift when I floored the gas to accelerate while already driving (not stopped). These 5 speed auto transmissions seem notorious for lazy shifting. If you ever drive a newer RAV4, the difference is night and day as the gas pedal behaves like a hair trigger. Right now I feel like I'm driving a 140hp 4Runner. I know the truck isn't broken in and I think the lazy shifting is just the way they are designed and programmed. I can't really say more until I get some mileage on my 4R and see how it progresses.

It's interesting what you said about the RAV4. In the last few months, I've had to travel and rented three Corolla's and one Camry. Both of their transmissions behave much differently than my 4R. In fact, the Corolla's is so responsive that you forget it's actually a 4 cylinder.

I just picked up my 4R and i can feel the difference. I also have an 05 and it has more pick up on the lower end. Is there a solution nationwide? Do i need to call my dealer now?

Did you feel the difference on the one you test drove? (Based on your post you 'just' picked it up, so I take it you have not been driving it long, obviously it is very noticable to you, that is why I question if you noticed it on the one you test drove also, or just yours.)
