Strike 2.

I tried to buy a 4Runner to pick up next Monday. One dealership sold the 2007 they have been sitting on for like a year. Once I inquired it sold! YUCK.

Today I tried Longo Toyota. They said that they only sell to California residents. If I want to buy one though they will sell it to me for MSRP (how generous). What the heck? Longo is lame. I am sure they sell enough to keep them happy by avoiding out of state buyers (as they are like the highest volume dealer in the nation), but that is the worst policy I've ever heard of in my life. Hopefully any of you that are considering buying there will go elsewhere.

Findlay Toyota in Nevada is another high volume dealer that treats people like garbage.

The 6pm news tells me we're in recession. The political ads tell me the end of the world is near. I happy for Longo, must be nice :biggrin2:

I hope you find a good one soon. Your travelling some beautiful country 'in search of'. Good luck

Oh, I forgot to add that Longo will only sell to you out of state if you pay MSRP and pay CASH. Not a cashier's check, not any sort of loan. You actually have to walk in with a suitcase full of money.

What a joke. They are pretty much everything that is wrong with the egotistical Toyota dealerships. I know all Toyota dealers aren't that way, but many of them are. Same with Honda. You walk into a Dodge dealership and you will walk out with a hunk of crap, but at least they are nice to you because they are so desperate for a sale.

HAHA!! Ya, Findlay is a joke! I tried to deal with them and they want outrageous prices. I bought my 4Runner from Power Toyota in Tempe from George Martinez, who at that point was the internet/fleet manager. No dealership in Nevada would touch the deal he gave me. Let me know if you want his email or phone number...

Nevermind, here is his contact info:

I had a very similar deal when I purchased my Titan. The internet dealer thing worked great! Don't be afraid of it. In fact I purchased from way far away and they had a list of shippers and a week later my truck showed up with no miles etc. The only thing I lost by not buying locally was the detail job. My Titan was dirty on the outside, go figure... (and big deal). After transport and everything I saved $3500 over my local dealers.

Just wondering why you do not buy a vehicle from a dealer in your own state? Aren't there any dealers closer than out of state?
If there are not any close by dealers, how will you handle maintenance and repairs (expecially under warranty)?

And you can buy one helluva detail job with that $3500 you saved! I have a couple friends that have purchased over the net and had good luck.

True, $3500 is lots of detailing! Over the time I owned I had it in for warranty a couple of times. I never had any indication that I was the proverbial "red-headed step-child". The service was always just fine. I really think they wanted me to buy next one with them...

4 Wheel Drive vehicles are always marked up here. They know that people need them and there is NO competition, so prices are outrageous.

The dealership here in town refuses to even have a fleet department. They recently got busted for selling vehicles with unlicensed sales people. When you contact "fleet sales" you get a kid that isn't authorized to sell. Then he passes you on to a normal lot salesperson that tells you that in order to give you a price quote you have to come in and visit. Seriously.

Recently I bought my wife a Honda Pilot. The dealership 2 miles from my house (where a friend of mine is employed) couldn't (or should I say wouldn't) come close to any dealership in Las Vegas. I was able to get the same vehicle for about $2000 less, and that included all options that she wanted, the color she wanted, and shipping to my house.

I tried to get them to do a dealer trade so I could buy local and they said I'd have to pay a $1000 premium. No lie. These jokers don't want business from smart shoppers. They want to rip off as many lame brains as they can. People like me aren't worth their time. Plus the selection is terrible.

I will still get full warranty and everything else. I don't see why I would need any service from a dealership within the warranty time frame though. After 36,000 miles the main warranty is up and I will do all work myself as I've always done. I can make a lot of repairs for a $1000+ savings. If I save $3000 (which I plan on doing) then I am way way way ahead of what I would save by buying local. So they act like jerks at the service department? That's ok, I'll take it to an independent mechanic who is better anyway and pay out of pocket for those kinds of savings.

I went out of state because even though i work for a lot of the local lexus dealers (vendor) they still wouldnt give me the deal i wanted.

That coupled with the fact that socal doesnt get many v8 4wds lead me to go out of state and:

1) get a better price
2) get a better money factor
3) meet a dealer that is *AWESOME*

Ill be going 400 miles away from now on whenever i need a toyota!
