strobes lights

thought this might deserve a new thread, not sure if there is a thread made for strobe lights or not but if there is Admin just move it for me..=)
but this is a work in progress will be one soon with pic, but for now i have only installed them in the rear taillights.

AlexJet - according to 2 CHP (california highway patrol) officers that i talked to they said it is legal as long as it doesnt flash more then 2 times a sec. amber in color and behind dot approved lens. and can only put them on in a road hazard situation. but i guess i will have to find out for sure when i use them... :runaway:

That's interesting. Could you post further information regarding it?

AlexJet - umm not sure what else to post. the california veh code is long and jumps back and forth, so i just went to a CHP office and talked to 2 of them there. the veh code is really hard to read but do a search on www.dogpile.com or whatever for "California Vehicle Code" good luck reading it.

Regarding the legal issues, I have a feeling you are supposed to have a permit for them. I can't remember exactly from the video you sent me, but I thought they were set on quad flash, which is definitely more than 2 flashes a second. In any case, I have never heard of anyone getting hassled for amber strobes, no matter what state they are in. BUT, you do take that chance.

ksneubec - ya that was quad flash, i have it set to double. i.e. left side flashes twice, right side flashes twice, now. the video was just showing it off... =) ya i have a feeling i do have to have a permit. i was reading the veh code and from what i gather the chp maybe didnt understand me, so i might be screwed.. but ill find out later today im going to go over to there chp office. and see what i can do.

I wouldn't really worry about it too much. Like I said, I've never heard of anyone being hassled for amber lights. As long as you don't do donuts in the PD parking lot honking the horn with the strobes on, you should be fine.

those arent strobes those are spastic hazard lights. you can now officially tell people your all the way over!!

Amber strobes have little value when behind a red lens. Clear strobes would add more light output, but as a LEO, I cant see the need to add strobes to a vehicle unless you are say a volunteer fireman or something of that sort where responding to an emergency and you may want some secondary corner lighting. Other wise, adding additional 'warning' lighting systems seems a waste.

I am pretty sure he put the amber strobe tubes behind the clear reverse lights.
I don't think he put them in because he thinks they are extremely necessary and something he is going to use all the time, I think it is more for fun. Just another way to modify your 4Runner and make it unique. Most of the modifications that you'll see on this website are not too functional or necessary but are done for the fun of it.

yes they are behind the reverse houseing in the back and the clear corner lights buy the fogs. and they are more for fun then anything, i do plan on getting into emergency search and rescure at work but its just if something would happend at work and stuff. universal studios is big and had threats to it so we have a huge teams for rescue if anything happends. Ie fire, bomb, whatever.
