strong gas smell and no cel

So a friend of mine reached out to me for some help and I figured I would do the same. I know there are 5000 write ups on this but the difference seems to be no cel and it's random with the smell sometimes it's not there and other times it smells like a can of gas spilt in the cab.
Visibly I can't see any leaks and it's tough to believe the evaporation system could produce a raw fuel smell for so long. Could possibly the fuel pressure regulator be leaking ? or a injector o-ring?
please share experiences and suggestions

1999 4runner v6 240k miles -previous owner said he put a motor with 165k in which makes me think there is a problem there

I've had 2 and both did what describe, no cel. I've removed hoses and blew through them. I can't say it worked, but less often and less strong. Try also removing hoses while running, keep a finger on some or motor will stall

Ok thanks it's pretty intense my clothes smell like gas when I get out
I pulled the intake and checked the injectors and hose there is no visible sign of a leak on any line or the tank
