Stuck CV Axel

So I have an aftermarket cv axel in my t4r and I need to replace the axel seal. The is no good lip to pound on to get it out. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to get it out?

I've heard of people fastening braided steel wire to the inboard side using a screw band clamp or something simliar, leaving an extra length of a foot or two, putting the length in a 3lb sledge and swinging the sledge away from the axle using the wire and the moving mass of the BFH to pull it out instead of pushing.

I can't say that I've done it myself, but it sounds like it would work.

You could also pry the shaft out using a pry bar of some sort but you risk damaging your differential housing if it's not done right.

I just replaced both of my CV axles and used a pry bar. It didn't take much force to get them out.

I had a lot more difficulty getting the new ones in...took a lot a patience.

That is so weird bc my experience is exactly the opposite. Hard to get out. A breeze to get in.

When you go to install the new one make sure the open part of the c-clip in facing downwards. Makes life easier.

I just sledge-hammered it out with a burly screwdriver (in the opposite direction of the pic though)

I removed my CVs this way when I swapped in a new front diff. I bought some braided cable from Home Depot and put a loop on each end. One to make a noose around the CV and one to loop around a 5lbs sledge. The CVs came out real easy. It's a good trail tool also.

This is how I usually get these out. but the replacement CV I bought does not have this lip.
