Stuck throttle....Wide Open!

Has anyone else had this happen? 2004 t4r 4.7....went to pass someone after they pulled out in front of me, I admit I was kinda pissed and I put the pedal all the way down, let off and next thing I knew I was doing 75 in a 35! Not cool....scared the f out of me! Anyone else? This is fly by wire correct?

So if I am understanding you correctly, what you're trying to say is you got pissed off and floored it and the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed? Shocking.

I think you need to completely explain your story in a bit more detail...ie. when you let off the pedal did the vehicle continue to accelerate? What did you do to slow down eventually? Also, I understand you ended up doing 75mph in a 35mph zone, but that says nothing about speed were you going initially...

The first car I owned, a '68 Torino, had a broken motor mount. I did not know it was broken. During a turn through an intersection one day, the car accelerated quickly. I had no idea what happened, but it scared the crap out of me - I was 17. When I told my stepfather what happened, he knew what to look for right away. I never would have connected a broken motor mount to runaway acceleration, but he explained that the carb linkage became jammed when the motor lifted. I learned a lot from him about cars in the subsequent thirty years.

I know a broken motor mount is not likely to be your problem, but my point is to consider things that to you, may not seem related.

Yes pedal stuck wide open for maybe 5 seconds after I let off. Not floor mat. Don't think any recall had been done. I could not find Any way to manually jam the pedal.

I agree with Lobsta, more information is needed here. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this post? Is it just being impressed that it accelerated that fast so quickly or that you might have a legitimate sudden acceleration issue?

No the throttle and pedal was completely stuck wide open with my foot completely off of it. I tried hitting the pedal with my foot and it didn't help. It all happened so fast and I was more concerned with weaving in and out of traffic. When it came undone the pedal just slammed back into position by itself.

There is a TSB out for most 4th gens, it's in the pedal aka the throttle position sensor has a hanger in it. If you take it to any dealership they should fix it free of charge due to the recall... Hope this helps. P.s. I'm a. ASE certified tech, so I'm not blowing smoke up your a$$.

I wasn't trying to be an arse to you...how else do you expect people here to help you if we have not the slightest clue on what went on or what you were even asking for that matter?

It depends on what the TSB says...usually Toyota puts a guideline as to how long the TSB is valid for, some can be honored as long as your bumper-to-bumper has not expired yet, some can be honored for as long as the power train warranty is valid etc. It would be best to look at the actual TSB he pointed you to be certain.

If it turns out that you are out of luck, I still would not hesitate to call Toyota and see what they can do. Since this would potentially be a serious safety issue you just might luck out and have them do a good will repair.
