Stuck!

Had an episode tonight. I posted this in the 4x4 section of thecarlounge where I regularly post so I'm just going to copy and paste. Enjoy! ATRAC sure had a workout, IE my brakes had a workout :(

Well I was driving out to my girlfriends parents when I could not pass up this mud puddle. I though it was a puddle at least...
It just looked like a small puddle with some water from the rain we got today. I thought it'd be fun to get the truck dirty. Well, stock 4runner with only Nitto Terra Grapplers = buried axels. I had my Dad come save me with his 2007 Tundra with Coopers STTs but there was no way. Two tow trucks later I was free as a bird...

Not sure if I should fault the Nittos since I haven't been in anything else like this with them, but they bogged pretty quickly. Oh well. I'll call this driver error.

Bummer! How much did the tow trucks cost? I now get a stick and measure before I go through any water I'm not familiar with - because I had a similar lesson... only I damaged the drive shaft in the process.

You were lucky it wasn't deeper or you would have sunk in.

Need to be careful when crossing water or mudding.

fxoffroad makes a good point of using a measuring device...but of course at the spur of the moment, our ego weighs heavier haha

That's what you never wheel alone.

Can't blame the NTGs...because from the looks of those pictures, even if you had BFG M/T KM2s, you'll still be stuck.

awww...the front wheels did you in. Looks like you weren't the first to attempt it. I would love to see what the other side looked like.

I gotta give you props for going up the gut..if you were a runningback, you would have lost your knees!

Next time, stick to the outside and work your way in. I would have gone up the right side (as this has def. happened to me before in an Isuzu Trooper) on the first go round
